Update below.

Here is the very uncomfortable South Sound Republicans' event flier:

Perhaps not the greatest year to hold a Fiesta Mexican Buffet in celebration of the Republican party.

I've reached out to Bill Bryant's campaign manager to ask if he has has any comment on the fact that his party's presidential frontrunner wants to build a wall between the United States and Mexico.* I have not yet heard back.

Bill Bryant, the former Seattle port commissioner with former frozen yogurt hair currently running for governor, has not made his feelings about Donald Trump clear. He's called the presidential race a "circus," but unlike some of his fellow GOP-ers, has not taken a position on Trump's candidacy.

Rep. Drew Stokesbary, an Auburn Republican who is also featured on the South Sound GOP flier, is not a Trump fan. He's dedicated a good chunk of his social media presence to #StopTrump and #NeverTrump hashtags.

Rep. Hans Zeiger (whose name is misspelled on the Cinco de Mayo event poster) has also condemned Trump's statements on banning Muslims from the United States. If South Sound Republicans plan on hosting something Ramadan-themed this June, they might want to take note.

UPDATE: When reached for comment on the Cinco de Mayo event, Rep. Drew Stokesbary (R-Auburn) said that he is not of Hispanic descent. Stokesbary believes the "Three Amigos" line in the poster probably had to do with a reference to the 1986 Steve Martin movie.

That said, Stokesbary also roundly condemned Donald Trump's comments on immigration policy and Mexican immigrants. "I think that building a wall is a horrible public policy idea and Trump's insinuation that rapists and murderers are more often Hispanic than they are white or any other ethnicity is just patently ridiculous," Stokesbary said. "I will never vote for Donald Trump. He disrespects women. He impugns entire nationalities and religions."

Stokesbary is currently working on a bill supported by Sen. Pramila Jayapal that would amend state law to allow legal US residents without citizenship status to become police officers and firefighters. "Anybody who is paying attention to suburban Republicans knows that our position on Hispanic issues or minority issues in general are not the caricatures of Republicans that sometimes people in Seattle think of us as," Stokesbary said.

But #NeverTrump status notwithstanding, Stokesbary said that he's not deterred by Bill Bryant's hesitance to take a position on Trump's candidacy. "There are one or two things I disagree on with Bill, policy-wise," Stokesbary said. "But, bottom line, I think he offers a better vision for Washington and stronger leadership than the incumbent governor."

*This post originally included a note about requests for comment from the legislators listed on the event flier. I emailed their public information officers, not their campaigns, and regret the error.
