Guest Editorial: Workers Deserve to be Paid for Training Shifts


Another technique that some companies use is to not pay newly hired workers for the time required for filling out paperwork and orientation to company policies. In some large companies this can take several hours. I remember some years ago I was dispatched to the Todd shipyard, I was told to come in for the drug test then to come back to the yard for the paperwork and orientation, then was told to come back Monday to report for work (this was a Friday). While it's not that big a deal being only about 1 days time I did think it was rather penurious on Todd's part.
