I was Rock the Vote's original demographic. It's weird to think how fired up young people were over Bill Clinton back then ("boxers or briefs?"), and how disinterested they are now in Hillary, when politically they're two peas in a pod.

Because if the parties don't heed Matt's advice, all we get is "Demsplaining" excuses for their losses.

I saw a photo of a bumpersticker online today that read "Giant Meteor 2016: Just end it already!" Yep, despair sums up this election perfectly.

Yes.. Please Viacom... Help the young ones to vote!

@1: because HRC is now as old as their Grandma. Back then Bill was Cool Dad. Obama was even cooler.

Look, "large percentages" means exactly shit. As R-Money said, 47% of Dems won't vote for him no matter what. 47% is a "large percentage". The % of GOP voters who won't vote Dem no matter what (as my Dad said recently, "I'd rather cut my own throat") is nearly as large.

@1, What, you mean that the situation, in terms of culture, economy, and politics, have changed since you were a kid? I'm shocked!

Oh, who are we kidding? Living in the early 90's is exactly the same as now. It's the kids who are wrong.

// How do you get The Youths interested in whoever's running for president? That's been a question since forever, but this year the answer seems to be, "Can't do it, don't bother." //

Or you could put Bernie Sanders on the ballot. have you seen his ratings from the youths? Have you seen how many millions have registered to vote just for Bernie?

Bernie has already done that. Hillary can't.

Also, there are *parts* of Hillary's campaign that are pretty awesome, such as the ones mentioned. But there are also ones that are pretty bad - such as her advocacy for fracking, her penchant for regime change and perpetual war, and her view that the funding of politics by wealthy private interests is no big deal at all. Throw in her 12/ rather than 15/ hour, her support for the death penalty, and her continual shift to the right, and it's not difficult to see how her platform is "ugh" worthy.

@9: Fracking shouldn't be banned wholesale; if the reservoir being fracked is decently bounded by impermeable caprock, the risks are negligible, and it allows for greater production of oil and gas from existing wells, reducing our reliance on coal and making unconventional petroleum sources (such as goddamn tar sands) less appealing to exploit.
And $15 an hour is good for more urbanized areas, but would definitely be disruptive if applied to the whole country. I stand by $12 an hour as a minimum, as do most of the experts who have weighed in. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/…
