Housing advocate Nicole Macri has picked up a notable endorsement in her race for the 43rd District: her former opponent, Danni Askini.

Askini, a trans rights activist and head of the Gender Justice League, was a frontrunner in the race until she dropped out last month to focus on defeating the anti-trans Initiative 1515.

"We need a bold progressive leader in Olympia—a leader who refuses to back down when access, equity, and justice are under attack," Askini said in a statement. "That is why today I am announcing my endorsement of Nicole Macri to represent the 43rd in the State House.”

The house seat in the 43rd, which covers Capitol Hill, is currently held by Brady Walkinshaw. Walkinshaw is now running for Congress. A whole slew of progressives have jumped into the race for the 43rd. The primary election is August 2.

Macri is currently deputy director of the Downtown Emergency Services Center, which provides shelter and services for homeless people and has fought to increase access to low-barrier housing. DESC runs 1811 Eastlake, a widely lauded housing project for chronic alcoholics. Macri's endorsements list also includes state Senator Pramila Jayapal and seven of nine Seattle City Council members.
