Well...whatever you regressive lefties need to do to avoid the past few days. Islamic terrorist attack in France, a country that the EU has been considering membership to breaking out into an attempted coup and a member of the Nation of Islam killing cops.

Yeah, I'd put the focus on a political party that's largely been dismissed by most Americans as bat shit crazy. Because you know, the narrative must go on!!!

When did Slog comments start beginning with #3? I see a #1 and #2, but all that is next to the numbers is incomprehensible gibberish. Weird. Maybe I need to switch to Internet Explorer.

The most bizarre aspect of the RNC circus is that they srsly believe that a Nixonian, corporate-supremacist, center-right, warhawk like Clinton somehow is a "liberal" who represents the "left."

Of course, they're about to nominate Diet Hitler, so that's where Asshole-Americans are at these days.

@ 1, The RepubliKKKans control two-thirds of the state governments and have a solid lock on CONgress for the foreseeable future. They control the majority of our country, so yes they're batshit insane and newsworthy.
6
@ 2, Is your problem with Muslims or religious people in general, 'cause it's white, heteroseckshal, Christo-fascist nutjobs that are a far greater immediate danger to us than foreign terrorists.

What the fuck does @1 mean by "France, a country that the EU has been considering membership to breaking out into an attempted coup"? Is this saying France is not already in the EU? I can't understand the structure of the whole sentence.

Good Morning Sydney,
I liked the way you used 'eerie'. After all, Cleveland is ON Lake Erie.

I recommend the Rock and Roll HOF and Terminal Tower if you have some time for excursions. Cleveland is an old Rust Belt city. It has some charm.

I think it's perfectly wonderful that someone took Our Dear Cato for the weekend. It's good to get out of the city and get some sun and fresh air.
11
I cant wait, this is the perfect opportunity for the NRA to show us all just how well things go when everyone is armed.
12
Cato, you're a fucking moron. Go away.
14
I would say, "be wary of the Cleveland Hellmouth," but unfortunately you've already stepped into it.

Thank you for this update! I will buy a GROOVESTONE VS. RNC 2016 shirt. Please don't get shot.

Cato: I live in a small Canadian city with a Muslim community that does lots of outreach, including having representatives in this year's Pride parade. They can do this because they feel mostly safe leaving their homes. I doubt U.S. Muslims feel safe

@8: The job of commas is to break up different clauses within a sentence, as well as separate items within a list.

This should assist you in comprehending sentences featuring commas in the future. Good luck!

@11: Ironically (or perhaps not), the police in Cleveland are requesting that open carry rights restricted for the convention. It is almost like the police know that tons of guns being carried around by random citizens don't make things safer.

Seatackled @8, you're misreading the commas. The three Horrible Events that Cato wished to highlight, but completely mangled due to poor grammar and sentence construction, were these.
1. There was an Islamic terrorist attack in France,
2. A country proposed for EU membership (Turkey) experienced an attempted coup, allegedly instigated by an Islamic cleric who now lives in the US, and
3. A member of the Nation of Islam killed cops in Dallas.

In short, asks Cato, why is The Stranger focused on the Republican Convention, while all these nasty Islamist terrorists are running amok without sufficient press coverage?

Here's one pretty good reason: in all three of these cases, any connection with radical Islam is still tenuous at best. ISIS claimed that the truck driver in Nice was one of their radicalized "soldiers," but French police have failed to find any proof of that. The Turkish cleric, who now runs a cloistered religious retreat in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, has denied any role in the attempted military coup in Turkey; in fact he has denounced the coup's leaders for resorting to violence, rather than working to restore free and fair elections that would depose Erdogan through the people's vote. And the shooter in Dallas was said to have "liked" the Nation of Islam on Facebook, along with several other radical and violent black power groups. Following something on FB does not make him a member of said organization, and even if it did, Nation of Islam has as much of a common mission with ISIS as PETA has with the Texas Beef Council. He told police before he died that he was acting alone and did not have ties to any organized group.

So much for the coordinated radical Islamic terrorist worldwide attacks. Now, back to what matters: the bat-shit craziness that we are all anticipating at the Republican Convention!

Please wait...
