Michelle Obama seems to be incredibly happy to return to private life, there is little chance that the Democrats are going to get a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate this year, and there is even less chance that the nomination of someone who hasn't been a practicing lawyer for over a decade and who has zero judicial experience wouldn't cause at least a few Democrats in purple states to break ranks on trying to stop a filibuster. It's a nice daydream, but it's not gonna happen.
@6 - Maybe so, but at least you have an approximately 50% chance of getting your illusory wish granted. If everybody was going to vote for whomever, you might as well pull a name out of a hat.
Nope, still not sympathetic. Post-knockout Biff might be deferential, but first, there's not enough backstory about what happened between 1955 and 1985 for Deferential Biff to be garner sympathy--his behavior is just a punchline. Second, by the time we get to the second film, we see that he's been putting up a front all along. He was nice to the McFlys only because he was afraid of George.
Anyway, the actor is fantastic, though I've never recognized him in any other films.
An archaic Chesterton-type conservative would be puzzled by a lot about Clinton, but would vote for her over Trump, because Trump would burn Chesterton's fence to the ground to make a dime.
A rightist neo-con would be less scared of Clinton's damage to the country than Trump's, probably.
A pseudo-Christian patriarchalist will deal with the devil to get control of the Supreme Court list and Pence in place if Trump gets bored.
Eh, typical Trump. Just saying bluntly what everyone else is dog-whistling.
This is what Slog writers say about Hilary every day and twice on Tuesdays.
And me too, even though I voted for Bernie. SCOTUS people, SCOTUS. That's the long game here.
I think Matt makes a bigger point in his writing (but doesn't actually say it.) He points outthat Trump's SC list came from someone else.
I don't think Trump cares about the SC (maybe for things like Citizens United.) He doesn't really care about abortion or gay rights or public education or mostly anything. What is more true is that I believe he doesn't even THINK about these issues.
He's like a business George W. Bush. He's an intellectual vacuum, not curious about anything (because he knows everything he thinks he needs to know) and, if it's not on his radar, then someone else can tell him what to do. That's probably his version of "asking the experts" because he doesn't want to be bothered.
I think Bernie Sanders has done incredible, great things for the political landscape in this country. But he wasn't able to go all the way and now we are stuck. But Hillary is well-qualified and Trump is an unmitigated disaster. He would be an embarrassment to me personally but for other people in our country, an absolute danger. I can't vote this time just for me or my conscience when other people will suffer under his rule. (I say rule because he seems to think he is running for king.)
Bullshit! Biff Tannen is entirely unsympathetic!
