Pharmaceuticals are a powerful lobby. Probably the real reason we don't have single payer or at least a public option for our healthcare.

Something tells me that this is just an agency that's trying to save it's own neck. If cannabis alone became a taxable item like booze and cigs it would be a huge budget blow, not to mention the extra money they get from seizures.

Even if there was zero medical value to marijuana there is an enormous cost to society in criminalizing its consumption, and that needs to stop.

Repeal the controlled substances act, abolish the DEA, and use the money to fund drug treatment and homeless housing. The drug abuse of a few does not mean that the government has a right to tell us what we can and cannot put into our bodies. Yes, I realize that will make crystal meth legal.

And while were at it, throw every one of these assholes into jail out of spite.

I love the circular logic. We won't reschedule it as a drug because there's no scientific evidence to back the claims, but we won't allow universities to research medicinal use.

Well, at least they'll now allow more scientific research. Baby steps.

Perhaps the next press release from the DEA will be about how opiates are totally the best way to deal with pain and completely safe, followed by an update on the "heroin" epidemic tearing apart the "heartland"?
