KNEX = Connects. but there's one in Laredo already. KNNX?

whatever. I miss KCMU.
2
Now if they could just dump the shitty midday soft-jazz bullshit and mealy-voiced, shit-eating Dick Stein personality, I'd call 'em whatever they please.
3
KINK in Portland has been broadcasting since the late 1960's - so, honestly, not that big of a deal.
4
Seriously. Dump the smooth-jazz crap and replace it with Ken Wiley's "Art of Jazz" on a continuous loop during the middle of the day. The elevators of this region will get by just fine without Mr. Stein at the helm.
5
nahhh... KNKX clearly refers to the San Diego Miramar Naval Air Station, CA. But we all like this, don't we? We want the alternative to KUOW to be [Barry White voice mode] Kink-aaah, (in fact, let's have it with less @2"shitty midday soft-jazz..." and more Barry White)
6
I'm just glad they're not changing into KUOW HD5.
7
@2: Seriously. How about getting some Jason Moran in there? Or Madlib. Or De La Soul. Or MMW. So many exciting possibilities out there.
8
Kink-x? As in Kink-XXX? Maybe they'll broadcast Savage Love?
9
As a dedicated KPLU listener I know that at least one of their staff is public about a history in the sex industry. It's safe to assume they know that KNKX could be read more than one way, and they're just fine with it.

And while people are hating on Dick Stein's musical choices, I bet that man knows his way around an orgy.
10
It reminds me of Tobias' vanity plate from Arrested Development:

ANUSTART

"A New Start"
11
I heard it was behind the people who named the South Lake Union Transit.
12
I thought "kinks," too, when I first saw that. Connects is a real stretch, but whatever; I'm just glad to have my favorite station. What I wish for from them is to move the blues programs to other nights than the weekends, and to have a dedicated latin jazz/salsa program, not just the 3 tunes every Thursday
13
Well KRAP!
14
That is so stupid. If they wanted something that said "connects," they should name it KNTS.

Silly rabbit.
15
Very Kinky!
16
@11 for the Still Call It That win
17
And the over-scripted, forced-chumminess in those pre-recorded foodie segments between Dick Stein and Nancy Leson make me want to shred my eardrums with a fork. They are SOOOO bad.
18
But their news team? Spectacular. I swear, if Amanda Wilde jumped-ship and started doing The Swing Years on KPLU/KNKX, KUOW would lose my listenership forever.
19
@14 KNTS sounds like knitting. Or nits, some kind of itchy parasite.
20
@14,19 - or KuNTS.. o_O
But don't KNCK the KRAP out of them or KLEN their KLOX for poor KNAM choices, they are just KUCX to KORPorate KIDZ seeKING profits.

...
Sorry. I'll just show myself out...
21
@14 -- also C*NTS
22
@14/19/20:

The call letters KNTS are already assigned to a Spanish-Language AM station (1680 on your radio dial) - Right here in Seattle.
23
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, Dan.
24
I see (C)an Kick. Do they have to use K___?

Less derivative jazz, more world music would be good.
25
@11, it was South Lake Union *Trolley*. And nobody realized it until about a month before service began.
26
@24: Radio stations start with K west of the Mississippi and W east of it. Why? Nobody knows.
27
Spelling it out for us what it looks like - mm that's good writing
28
Did they have to change their call letters? WLS in Chicago (named for Sears "World's Largest Store" and WOW (named for Woodmen of the World insurance company) in Omaha still have their call letters, even though they severed their connections with those companies decades ago. Were they required to do this, or was this just some dumb marketing thing?
29
@9 I love you.
30
Perhaps because I am from Northern California, but 88.5 Mhz should be KQED.
31
I was hoping for KPFU as a little thanks to UW and PLU.

Please wait...
