Edit: My previous comment was unnecessarily snarky. If I knew how to remove it, I would. So instead I apologize for saying it. There's just too much unrestrained rudeness in the world. Meanwhile, thanks Jessica for letting us know about the traffic incident. I am glad I wasn't in Tacoma today. I am on that stretch of highway every few weeks. It's a pain as it is just on a good day.
I don't get it. What's wrong with saying "the I-5"? I get that there are things that one doesn't call "the", like "the Safeway", but I thought the context here was fine. Headline says I-5. Or am I missing something? (I totally don't get the "eye-five" comment.)
@10 - people who actually grew up in Seattle say "I-5." Apparently calling a highway "the" something is a southern California thing (maybe elsewhere too?). In any case, calling I-5 "the I-5" immediately marks a person as being NFH (Not From Here).
I did grow up in Seattle (wasn't born there, but we moved when I was 2), so I don't get the "eye-five" comment either. Never heard it pronounced any other way.
nope.
Pike's Market! Nordstrom's! The 5!
I learned my first week it's pronounced "eye-five" for "I-5"
