On one hand every single company as large and as old as the SPD has lost at least the same amount of data as well, but I bet as time goes on we'll see a trend of police departments of all sizes and ages claiming data loss.
@4: On the other hand, those companies' staff are not employed to enforce public policy with force, and those other staff are not provided near-certain immunity from prosecution for killing people on the job. With extraordinary authority should come extraordinary scrutiny. This isn't some company losing data about staff actions; it is a police department doing such.
