Classy is as classy does. She was the classic "I've got mine" conservative, using her wealth and education to argue that other women shouldn't have the same opportunities she had.
Rest in peace, indeed. Just as long as she doesn't come back.
As Bette Davis said on the passing of Joan Crawford: "if you can't say anything good about someone don't say anything at all... Joan Crawford is dead, Good!" ... same to you Phyllis! To many queer people's lives destroyed because of this vile woman.
Just think, on the evening of the last day of a long weekend, a post like this gets a respectable number of views. Maybe Dan Should write death notices for hateful homophobic antifeminists more often.
I don't want to speak ill of the dead, so I will let Phyllis Schlafly do it for me.
ERA means abortion funding, means homosexual privileges, means whatever else.
Phyllis Schlafly
Feminism is doomed to failure because it is based on an attempt to repeal and restructure human nature.
Phyllis Schlafly
Men should stop treating feminists like ladies, and instead treat them like the men they say they want to be.
Phyllis Schlafly
Congress should pass legislation to remove from the federal courts their jurisdiction to hear these outrageous challenges to the Ten Commandments and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Phyllis Schlafly
Sexual harassment on the job is not a problem for virtuous women.
Phyllis Schlafly
I bet she died just so she wouldn't have to see a woman be elected President of the United States. Ding dong the witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch! Ding Dong the wicked witch is dead!
Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement that Schlafly was “an unflinching champion of many ideas Republicans have long held dear.”
Don't speak ill of the dead applies to your mean spirited alcoholic auntie or whatever, not public figures that affected the lives of millions. Not going to sit here and let that harpy be glorified for the work she did to keep so many down.
@22: Exactly. I notice that people fail to keep respectful about Fascists, Nazis, and other monsters of history. The quote is about being nice and not gossiping at a relative's funeral, nor persons history is objectively better off without. People who dedicated their lives to evil.
I don't know what it is, but since I was a kid, I can't read her name and not hear it pronounced like it's coming from the lips of Carol Channing doing a character. I guess that won't be an issue anymore.
As much as I should just write RIP and say a Kaddish to the Dead, I do hope she has a long time out in Purgatory and perhaps Limbo, besides she has to watch her gay/Homocon son taking on the entire USC Football team in an orgy, like Clara Bow.
The irony of her life was that, whatever she may have said about feminism, she, herself, lived a feminist life. Educated, a lawyer, an activist, a politician, an author, not to mention wife and mother of six. Change her politics and she would have been an icon.
@30 - I'm pretty sure she had a cook do that for her. Her whole career, a thing itself that she wanted to deny all other women, was based on paying people to do the things she told other women they should stay home and do. It seems like justice to know that the wheel of karma is going to be operating in her disfavor. Perhaps if she's really lucky she'll come back as a Filipina maid in Dubai. Or a Dalit widow in New Delhi.
Nice to see 2016 being more fair and balanced. It took David Bowie and Alan Rickman from us, but also Antonin Scalia and Phyllis Schlafly. In order to balance the losses of Prince and Lemmy, I can think of a few more right wing assholes who have overstayed their welcome.
I could just hear Freddy dedicating "Another One Bites the Dust" to Phyllis Schlafly's demise.
🎶"...Hey another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust ow
Another one bites the dust he he
Another one bites the dust hay yay ya ya ya..."🎶
🎶"...There are plenty of ways that you can hurt a man
And bring him to the ground
You can beat him
You can cheat him
You can treat him bad and leave him
When he's down yeah
But I'm ready yes I'm ready for you
I'm standing on my own two feet
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
Repeating to the sound of the beat"🎶
And that's about as charitable as I can get, given the circumstances.
But what she did was unconscionable.
Rest in peace, indeed. Just as long as she doesn't come back.

Yes indeed.
Fuck that bitch i'm glad she's gone.
Really.
Hers was the fine mind that came.up with the final nail in the coffin nonsense talking point to kill the ERA in the 70s:
The liie that the ERA would open women's public bathrooms to men.
Burn witch burn in the hell of your own making.
The irony of her life was that, whatever she may have said about feminism, she, herself, lived a feminist life. Educated, a lawyer, an activist, a politician, an author, not to mention wife and mother of six. Change her politics and she would have been an icon.

Can't say that I wished her death had come any sooner but I am not sad she's gone. Her words were poisonous.
Freddie, if you can hear me, "sorry 'bout that!"
