My opinion of Rush Limbogh remains unchanged.
3
Goddam Mississippi.
4
Don't forget people in authority exploiting those under them.
Which is why they throw female teachers into jail for consensually fucking 17 year olds.
So,then, if the leader of the free world, the most powerful person on the planet, a man of cosmic charm and boundless carnal experience, was fucking a 20 something intern that would totally be rape.
Of course, when his wife found out about it she would totally put a stop to it and do whatever she could to help the poor rape victim.
Because that's what a decent ethical person would do.
5
Hey, they said they supported traditional values and they meant it.
6
@4:

You totally missed the part about "consent", didn't you?
7
So since Limbaugh is a known drug user, we don't need his explicit consent to roofie him, is that how it goes?
8
@4 stfu pretending you know anything about being a decent ethical person. You are garbage.
10
It was confounding for me to find myself agreeing with Limbaugh on something. I think, however, he's really having a different conversation to an entirely different set of people - those who think some particular sex acts are morally wrong and that only 'morally degraded' people would consent to them. These are folks who, generally speaking, would have problems with people masturbating as well. They aren't regular Savage Love reads. Heck they aren't even Seattle Times editorial section readers.

Lastly - does Rush even have any advertisers and sponsors after the Fluke disaster? Or his other numerous controversies? Someone should do a check on how many advertisers returned after the scrutiny was lifted.
11
Jesus fucking Christ.

They had a point with Billy did it too. It's one I think needs repeating because it has a point about rape culture running for President on both sides of the aisle. It reminds me of the quote from MLK about northern moderates and their covert racism that will stab you in the back vs southern conservatives that are racist to your face.

But demonizing consent? What the fucking fuck kind of stupid bullshit is this?!!?
12
The "rape police" are not the carnal equivalent of the "fashion police" or the "PC police" that conservatives are always moaning about. They're, you know, the police. Those ones with real guns, handcuffs, and the capability to cart your ass off to jail.

Keep it classy, Rush.
14
I find it kind of oddly amusing how far they'll sense and decency so that they can support that festering sore covered in Cheetos powder. The talking anal wart on an Oompa Loompa's ass has been documented talking about his infant daughter's future breast size, admitting his lust for twelve-year-old Paris Hilton, and telling a ten-year-old that he'd be dating her in ten years. I can hardly wait for Limbaugh or Hannity or some evangelical douchebag to say that it's the "Age Police" of the Left that have made it sound like it's not okay to fuck young children. Goddamn those liberals and their political correctness.
15
@14: missing word: "Forgo" As in "how far they'll forgo sense and decency . . ."
16
@4, that's sexual harassment, not rape. And it's not even sexual harassment all of the time. Sometimes it's just older or more savvy people shittily preying on younger or more naïve people. But it's still not rape if there's mutual consent between adults.
17
I agree with you wholeheartedly, Dan. But as someone who suffers from Crohn's Disease, I take issue with you comparing Rush to my condition ("It's not just marital rape that this fissured old asshole supports.").
18
A power differential as great as that between The President and an intern precludes consent.
No consent possible equals rape.
Even Rush knows that.
19

It's not just gay sex Dan, he is after poly people too, mentioning two or three or more.
So this loser thinks consent is not necessary then? Another rape apologist. Another jealous person trying to stem the tide that modern sexual practices, amongst the 'left', have become. I'm guessing in conservative ranks as well.
This is the post gay marriage backlash. Abhorrent attitudes are being expressed all over , and then publicly analysed.
So this guy says consent isn't necessary. Rape is ok.
Hear that conservative women. Hear how much agency some of your men think you should have.
20
@18) A power differential as great as that between The President and an intern precludes consent. Uhm, okay. While we're inventing these wonderful pronouncements, my intellect precludes your existence. So die.
21
I'm only at least happy that, since all the world's a stage, the the latest plot twists have dragged these most outspoken and sinister villains out of the shadowed wings and into the limelight. The awful rhetoric we have encountered secreting out of the collective id that is the dank, musty armpit of the far-right wing Trump apologists gives space for a properly heroic foil. The fight against rape culture, before evidence to its existence was so glaring, too often led to eye-rolling about "angry feminists." Male-dominated society hasn't wanted to acknowledge the fear, shame, and rage that we have carried in our bodies since we first became aware of those who would disregard our autonomy over them. Every single woman shares this burden. I know more female friends (and many male) who have been sexually assaulted or abused than have not. You probably do, too. So now we have this platform for conversation, but to get there we are enduring literally an entire world of #yesallwomen and many, many men SIMULTANEOUSLY triggered of the memories of all of our past sexual traumas. This is getting under people's skin in an unprecedented way. I just kind of want everyone to know that this is really happening for us. Every one of us is reliving our hurts right now, trying to come to grips with a world that allows and even encourages it, and it's actually hard. I'm maddened by friends and family members who have turned into rape apologists, and it actually causes me some psychological anguish. I don't know of another time in history when there was such a divide in ideology. But I believe that the truth will win out, and that this will be worth it. That we can bring this disgraceful cartoon bully villain down in a spectacular way. I mean bigly. And that we can start to really change, and heal, and LISTEN to women and our stories. And maybe then we will start to prevent these incidences before they start. We'll TALK about consent and why it's important, because we get to respond to the likes of Limbaugh and Trump, and the consciousness of the American and even worldwide landscape can begin to evolve.
22
Mr Savage is inaccurate. I doubt Mr Limbaugh would care which of the two OS parties happened not to consent.
23
@18 - if you're trying to argue that Clinton used his position to "coerce" the intern, then by all means lay out your case; but to say that the imbalance in power alone eliminated the intern's ability to provide knowledgeable consent in the same way that a child can not provide consent to an adult is just demeaning.
24
I think it was bad form for the president, likely the most powerful man in the world at that time, to have sex with a twenty-something intern. It was terrible judgment, and she is still paying the price for it.
But it was by no means rape.
25
+1000. Full stop.
26
If there is consent on both or all three or all four, however many are involved in the sex act, it's perfectly fine. Whatever it is.

Yeah, pretty much. I mean you don't want people to get hurt -- play safe everyone! -- but "consent" implies that. As in, "the porn stars knew they were taking a risk by having unprotected sex, but they all consented".

Anyway, preaching to the choir. Funny ass shit, when you get right down to it. With the imploding Trump campaign, It cracks me up more and more. Up until election night it will still be a nervous laugh, but holy shit, I'm gonna party like crazy when Hillary wins. I will go back to reading gems like this, and cherish every single one of them. If it weren't for the internet, I would be hoarding every copy of this rag. Hey -- happy 25th, man -- I remember when no one but a handful of locals knew about you. Oh, how the world has changed.
27
WHAT THE FUG
28
A power differential . . . precludes consent.

Nope. A power differential is a factor to consider. The key is determining whether that power differential was leveraged in a way that amounts to coercion. Coercion would preclude consent. The power differential, in and of itself, would not.

By your logic, POTUS should just be celibate for his entire term in office because he's bound to be more powerful than anyone who may want to bang him, unless he's enough of a gerontophile to seek some Supreme Court butt. (And even then, we'd have a conflict of interest / separation of powers issue.)
29
TYT has a segment about this on YouTube, so I heard the video.
He (rush) eventually breaks into a creepy 'rape voice'. Very disturbing.

The thing that bothers me the most is that about one third of the country thinks like this.
These are dangerous times.
30
@28

2nd paragraph: that was just funny.
31
I feel like I missed something fundemental to understanding Limbaugh's spiel. Surely, something is missing, otherwise a somewhat respected (?) pundit just advocated rape publically ( for fuck's sake Rush, consent is the magic ingredient, even in vanilla sex). I didn't think this election could surprise me anymore. I thought the bar was too low for that.
32
Far be it from me to defend shitbag Rush, but I think it's just possible that by "consent" he means explicit consent - i.e. a cartoonish idea of The Left stipulating that every. single. stage of a sex act be preceded by some legalistic moment of obtaining consent, e.g. "may I unhook your bra?" followed by "may I touch your buttocks", etc.

It's still inaccurate and deluded, of course, but it's possible he may not be advocating against consent globally. Possible.
33
Lance, this man has no wiggle room. He said what he said. Now there's a group of them saying women should lose the vote, because trump would win if only men voted.
For those who thought the gender wars were done and dusted, look again.
These sleeze bags see women as things.
34
If people try to accuse Hillary of being as bad to women as Trump direct them to this video:
http://theweek.com/speedreads/654613/meg…

This is the Judge Nap that had videos everyday for months about the emails and saying she should be indicted. He is staunchly against Hillary. I'm sure this won't change their conspiracy theorist diluted views, but it will give them something to think about.
35
@32 Lance

That's not what he said, but I know that has been the context of his comments on consent before, and I know from visiting Trump/Rush country recently that this is how his words are playing in his own base.

Also, the way you (and some people though not "the left" as a whole) present this play-by-play request for consent, it is ludicrous. Of course Rush is going to run with that and over-generalize, but it's not a defense of his statements. He goes in the opposite direction, even saying that no doesn't always mean no and so on. He's just taking an extreme interpretation and blowing it up to try to justify his own weirdo creepy ethics.

Finally, the play-by-play explicit consent stuff is pretty good advice for young and inexperienced partners - if they want to make sure that the other partner isn't just going with it because she's afraid of losing face. It's easier for experienced and older people to know if their partner is responsive, but it can actually be a confusing thing for some young people who are new to all of this. If you're a horny teenager trying to get it on with a nervous partner, it's not such a bad idea to ask before you unhook the bra or stick your hands down the pants.

Please wait...
