seems massively unnecessary.

Interesting concept; reduction of bearing friction and noise coupling between the drive and platter are some real improvements on the most significant challenges of turntable design. I would be concerned about the ability of the system to keep the platter perfectly concentric to its center of rotation, and how it is so constrained to avoid wobble which would cause pitch error in playback. It seems that the platter would also have to be relatively lightweight in order for this system to work efficiently which goes against conventional approaches in high-end turntables that almost always feature a high-mass platter to enhance stability in rotational speed and dampen parasitic mechanical effects. I would assume that the tonearm would have to be specially tuned to work well with this system of suspension. It is also somewhat disconcerting that the final prototype is scheduled to be competed following the end of the kickstarter campaign. On the other hand if the design proves successful it will likely double in price from what is presently offered.

Yeah, I'm interested in how they're going to maintain concentricity.

Please wait...
