How far is anti-semitism in the new White House going to go when one of Trump's most trusted adviser, Jared Kushner, is Jewish and his wife Ivanka converted to Judaism?
2
@1 Considering Rhom the head of Hitler's SA was half-Jewish, I'm not sure how much comfort that should give people.
3
America as we knew it is over. We are not coming back from this as a nation.
6
But Hillary was TOTALLY electable!! No really..she's got this shit IN THE BAG!!!!
7
This is worse than Reagan or Bush. We've put in place a government that would, if given the chance, turn back the clock on many rights to the 1850s.
8
It's "capital", Dan, not "capitol".
9
@3,
Oh, we'll recover. Americans are dreadfully short-sighted and forgetful. Things will be terrible for a couple years, then there'll be a backlash for a couple years, then a backlash to the backlash for a couple years, continue ad nauseam.

Politics in this country are like a pendulum swinging out of control.
11
@6
Still trying to get mileage out of that joke, eh?
12
The good news is that Trump is burning bridges to the media. Good. Fuck "access". "Access" is what journalists get in exchange for soft coverage. "Access" gets you phony shills like Judith Miller. Access doesn't turn Brietbart into real news or Bill O'Reilly into a real journalist. I.F. Stone and Seymour Hersch never had any of this fucking access bullshit, and they don't have any privileges to be taken away when they annoy the powerful.

Any organization that gets a seat on asshole's plane is dead. We need reporters to get out and find shit, not sit around waiting for asshole to feed them little news bites of his choosing.
13
But it is different. These people are emboldened and we have ourselves to blame for not standing up and telling these people loudly and forcefully enough to sit down and shut the fuck up. No more code words or slinking around in the dark. Its out, loud and proud. People need to band together and push back on this behavior when witnessed and not just stand there mouth agape. There should have been occupy sized protest at CNN to shut it down. He was right in a way though. They are a group of liars whether by omission or plain distortion and misinformation. They're also cowards and traitors as well.
14
Yes, Hillary was delectable, but the Far Left Useful (for Republicans) Idiots decided to punish us all for not riding on their unicorns.

It's simple math: Hillary got 2 million more votes than Trump, Sanders got 3 million votes fewer than Hillary.

But let's dumb the math down for Greens and Libertarians: 1 candidate running from the right, 3 candidates running from the left, equals Trump!

Didn't want to vote for the lesser of two evils?

Now you've got MORE EVIL, MUCH MORE EVIL!

Happy now?
15
The closest comparison I've heard is Nixon. That's way before my time, and apparently no one generally knew how insane and evil he was until the tapes came out.

You'd have to look to the Third World to find another leader that purposely generates this much outrage, divisiveness, and revulsion.
16
For the love of Colonel Sanders! Can we please stop referring to these Neo Nazis as "Alt-Right" already?????
17
In the Trump Bubble, the "Are Jews people?" shenanigans will be dismissed with one of their go-to moves:
1. That question does not mean what the liberal meanie media types say it does! (insert foot stomp)
2. The alt-right nazis don't speak for the Trumps! (insert accidental Heil Donald gesture)
3. The conversation never actually took place! (insert the Orange Anus leaning down to the mic and declaring, "Wrong")

Then his followers will go back to threatening not to buy tickets to a Broadway musical they were never going to see anyway, nor could score a ticket to without several hundred dollars and a scalper website.
18
12

The Media has burned it's bridges to the American People,
and what they think and say about Trump won't matter much.
The public see thru their blatant hack partisanship.
19
The Left has jumped the shark in their paranoid hysterical Trumphobia.
Probably they are suffering from PTSD.
The patient's prognosis is poor.
20
On top of everything else, Trump will never divest from his businesses, so there is a (pardon the expression) YUUUUGE conflict of interest there. He very possibly could be impeached, which would put Pence in the White House. I honestly don't know which would be worse for democracy. We are fucked no matter how you look at it.
21
@18 & 19

Alright.. Who left that book of cliches out where Grandpa could find it?
22
It's not alt-right.

It's not neo-Nazi.

It's just pure Nazi.

You live in 1933 Germany today.

Act accordingly.

The Nazis won because the opposition was divided. They won because none challenged their lies.

You have to act. Not attack others.
23
MSM gave Trump 3 billion worth of free air time, ya'd think he'd be grateful, suckers?
24
"But Hillary was TOTALLY electable!! No really..she's got this shit IN THE BAG!!!!" Yeah, because everyone willing to vote for a neo-Nazi allied candidate would have voted for Bernie Sanders. Yeah, that's totally right.
25
Meanwhile, nary a peep about this? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/c-e-…
26
@14- And voter turnout was down in general, almost as if running two very widely disliked candidates drove 50% of the electorate to simply not participate and raging at the 3% that voted 3rd party (as a couple percent always do) is completely pointless. Perhaps you'd like to start working on how the Democrats could motivate the electorate more? There are elections of some kind every year, and turnout is always key.
27
I fear that Trump, with an assist from News Corp.'s Post, has pulled another fast one. While the Post runs a story about the meeting with the press being a "fucking firing squad," another story runs on CNN saying that while there was criticism, things went fairly well. So he gets it both ways: His Make America Great Againers will be thrilled to imagine Donald slaying the liberal mainstream media. The more moderate out there will here versions of the CNN story, which is likely much closer to the truth, and will perhaps be persuaded that maybe this guy won't be so bad after all. And for the most part these groups will hear only one version of the story because they get their news from completely different sources. It's just like the Hamilton-Pence episode: No matter what happens, Donald wins. Isn't that terrifying?
28
Welp, it's still not too late to move to Canada, Dan!
29
It is all so terrifying. The white supremacy rant is something else.
Sign one of the petitions to the Electoral College. This madness could still be stopped if the EC don't ratify trump in December.
30
But wasn't freedom of the press and freedom of speech so nice while it lasted?! Sigggghhhhhhhhhh.....
31
@5 Tell that to all the people who died from AIDS during Reagan's years, when he refused to even acknowledge the plague or LGBTs, and all those sent off and killed in the Iraq war during Bush's tenure. No, "we" didn't survive. You survived.
32
@14

Trump was actually slightly to the left of Hillary, and Johnson was the farthest right of the four.

https://www.politicalcompass.org/uselect…

Trump was the most authoritarian of the four, but Clinton wasn't too far behind him.

You seem a bit confused. I hope this helps.
33
@ 32, That dog just ain't gonna hunt. Candidate (1) no minimum wage, repeal dodd-frank; candidate (2) free college for 150,000k and regulating non-bank hedge funds.

According to your chart candidate (1) is more economically egalitarian than candidate (2).

The chart is generally a laugher.
34
Will in Seattle (#22) is right.
If we do not want to watch another Reich rise, the we have to fight this together, not attack each other over minor differences. We also have to support -- with our $$$ and messages to legislative leaders -- the media outlets that do investigative reporting.
Finally, we have to fight the passing and "trending" of fake news stories a la Facebook.
Many of us thought the Interwar-Germany could never happen here.
35
Maybe we can renominate the clearly electable Hillary Clinton with another bland white bread center right running mate?

Seriously, will the left EVER take responsibility for the fact YOU FUCKED THIS UP?!?! You nominated the most unliked candidate in recent history in an election cycle that was clearly anti-Washington. But no...cry like babies and blame anything else.

Then get ready to lose more Senate seats in 2018 and walk into a second Trump term in 2020.
36
@14 can people PLEASE stop repeating and believing this false narrative that the third parties cost Hilary this election? It's really unhelpful to the party to remain in such denial instead of just admitting it probably wasn't the best idea to choose such a divisive candidate, and that the Democratic Party was incredibly tone deaf to what The People wanted in this election.

Both Trump and Bernie tapped into the whole 'fuck the system' frustration so much so that people were willing to cross party lines, going against what they'd normally vote for, in a desperate attempt at getting some real change. So we had staunch conservatives willing to give the socialist Jew a shot- and Obama voters willing to toss their votes Trump's way.

Regardless of what she had to offer in terms of superior experience over the other two, Clinton was viewed, quite simply, as The Same Old Shit. The Democratic Party would be wise to accept that fact, learn from it, and make better choices in future instead of continuing on with these useless ridiculous excuses for why she lost the election.

If Every Single Person who voted for Jill Stein had voted for Clinton instead, Hilary Still Would Have Lost.

As for the libertarians- maybe the ones you know call themselves liberals, but every single one I know and read about is pretty fucking aligned with most of the conservative side of politics and therefore, in all likelihood, were anti-trump protest votes. Which means, if the people who voted for Johnson had just sucked it up and voted for one of the main candidates, the one who aligned with their views the closest, they would have voted for Trump. And then perhaps he would have won both the electoral AND the popular vote. Think I'm wrong? I live in Kansas, under the rule of Brownback and his fucked up Libertarian Experiment- does my state look at all liberal to you?!

Also: I live in one of the teeny tiny patches of blue in this state and am incredibly tired of the blame heaped constantly on all of us here in the Midwest from the coastal liberals who dismiss everyone in the 'fly over states' as conservative dumbshits who deserve what they get by voting for Brownback and Trump. Guess what? not all of us vote conservative! In fact, quite a few of us don't. So fuck everyone for your lack of support to us liberals who remain behind 'enemy lines' fighting the good fight and trying to make a fucking difference while you sit smugly in your blue states of bliss judging the entire lot of us exactly the same. Super Helpful. Way to support us.
37
Um...This has been debunked as fake news. Just Google "Are Jews people fake news" and you will find many sites that have followed this CNN fake news story. Guess we know now why Trump ripped the MSM a new one yesterday.
38
Um, I think @37 was making a joke?

I did what you said, and it is NOT a fake story:

https://www.google.com/amp/www.hollywood…

Playing with the truth ain't cool, man, at a time like this.
39
One thing to do. STOP calling them Alt-right. "Alt-right" is a fake term Steve Bannon of Breitbart came up with to hide the fact that they are white supremacist, racist groups. These groups have the exact same beliefs as the KKK and Media is being biased FOR them by hiding what they are. Media, call these people white supremacists. That is what they are and by helping them hide behind fake terms like alt-right, Media is complicit.
This is no different than if there was a group that wanted to take all of women's rights to vote, own property and live on their own away and media called that group some name like "traditional family".
40
Is there a reason that this story doesn't contain a segment of the clip where this was said?
I would also like to thank the left for suddenly caring about anti-Semitism. They sure didn't care when Democratic Congressman Hank Johnson called Jews "termites" a few weeks ago. They sure didn't care about the anti-Semitism at BLM events, including several incidents in this city. 50 years of the left being apologists or indifferent to anti-Jewish hatred when it comes from leftists, black nationalists, and Muslims. Now you are so concerned.
I can see in my minds eye a photo of those two black activists screaming at Bernie and the other old man at the social security rally. They hate those two had was comparable to any neo-Nazi I've ever seen. Those who didn't support this anti-Semetic aggression were called racist. Their abuse was proudly applauded by black activists who hailed harassing and abusing an elderly Jewish man was racist as were those who objected. Now these same people are crying that Trump made it safe to show similar racist aggression to them. What a sick joke the left is.
41
@39 Are we going to stop referring to people like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Malcolm X as civil rights and anti-racist leaders? All 3 of them are guilty of far worse hatred then Trump and the alt-right. Sharpton incited lynch mobs on numerous occasions. I keep hearing Nation of Islam being referred to (including by the Seattle Times) as a "black religious group" when it is in fact a hate group. Tavis Smiley has Farrakhan on his State of the Black Union on PBS. Farrakhan is openly supported by some of the most prominent and powerful black leftists in this country including Democratic politicians and anti-racist activists. There is a photo the media never published that showed Michelle Obama and the wives of several other prominent black politicians. The left claims this is no big deal. But let a photo come out showing Melina Trump and Cindy McCain hanging around David Duke's wife and the shit hits the fan and they'd never be forgiven.
42
So...@#38, I was referring to the fake nature of the headline "If Jews are people". This is an out of context and incorrect statement by Richard Spencer. The quote is from a speech he gave in which he was discussing the main stream press and he asked "one wonders if these people are people at all".
Link - https://youtu.be/NcqCdGLFWXs
If you listen to the first 2 minutes, you will find the quote in question at about 1:26. Be sure to listen to the previous section as it gives the context.
I'm not defending Richard Spencer. I'm defending accuracy in reporting and condemning fake news/propaganda/taking things out of context to demonize. Credibility is important. This election should have taught us that.
43
Ok, @42, I checked it out and YOU ARE RIGHT!!

That white supremacist guy is NOT questioning whether Jews are people, but rather anti-Trumpers "blindly" following the talking points of people like John Oliver.

Still, you could have been clearer in your original comment, since clearly most of us didn't know all the context you did.
44
Jews are literally THE CHOSEN PEOPLE who wrote the bible, so...
45
Lol, the same people that shill for BLM, whiteknight for Islam and bash Israel with every waking hour now suddenly outraged by antisemitism.
46
Please be aware that white racists often use their support of a militant version of Israel as a pathetic way to deflect criticism from their racist positions.
Fellow Jews, Islamophobia is also anti-Semitism.
47
@44 and @46, FO.
48
@33

Sorry gomer, you obviously didn't read the article.
A quick glance at a chart isn't doing your due diligence, and picking two issues that Hillary claimed to support doesn't change anything.

Hillary also said she was against the TPP, but thanks to those leaked emails we know that isn't true either.

By the way, the chart was based on what candidates said they would do during the general election, not what they would actually do if elected.
49
sarah91
What's the problem?
50
Ok, but CNN wasn't itself asking "are Jews people", they were reporting on some asshole who was saying it. I don't watch CNN, but I'm gonna guess the editorial attitude about this was something along the lines of "how awful someone would say/ask that".

Meanwhile, in Savage-land, this is proof that the mainstream news is embracing and endorsing Nazi propaganda. I wonder, does Savage and his ilk ever stop and think why the majority of America doesn't take them serious when they hyperventilate about racism around every corner? I wonder if they know they are actually harming the politics Savage-like people associate themselves with?
51
@50: The problem is that they're giving him a platform by reporting his views. Their angle is "this is news, let's talk about it" when it should be "old man yells at cloud".
52
So, when Bernie was leading 3:1 i the polls in a head-to-head matchup with Trump, and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz along with Donna Brazille decided they'd rather go with Clinton even if that meant losing to Trump, did you choose to attack them, or the voters?

There's no way to win an election by demonizing the electorate. You cannot convince people to vote for you if all you do is insult them.

And like it or not, we're stuck with this Electoral College thingie, so you need the voters in those non-coastal states. You can't just "mansplain" to them about how ignorant they are for voting against Clinton, thats just going to make them hate you even more, and rile them up to re-elect Trump in 2020. What you've got to do is shut up and listen to their concerns.

I'm sure you would've preferred Bernie over this guy. And that's what you would have gotten if it hadn't been for the DNC. There are very real consequences to not listening to the electorate when they tell you they don't want neoliberal economics. And you know what? We're living in the hell the DNC created for us when they decided to ignore the voters in rural states.

This is what you get, folks. See that neo-Nazi fuck in that video? You know how he came to be the President-elect's best buddy? That happened because some self-important jackasses at the DNC thought they knew better about hat the American people wanted than the American people themselves.

You remember how everyone said that Superdelegates were good, because the GOP didn't have them and look what they wound up with? The GOP wind up with a candidate that reflected the wishes of them electorate better than we did, and you can thank the Superdelegates for that. If the DNC had nominated the guy the voters nominated, the voters would have voted for the Democrat, and you wouldn't have neo-Nazis in the fucking White House.

Please wait...
