there is nothing and no one that can or will stop that malignant narcissist from gaslighting just like that for the next 4 years.
2
I saw a great comment on Daily Kos, responding to the question "Did you watch that press conference today?" The comment said something like, "No. I tried, but it's like bull riding. You can only do it for about eight seconds, before losing consciousness in a world of pain".
3
I watched a minute and shut it off. Dumber than dirt.
4
@3: Obviously you didn't watch enough, as it was quite interesting and amusing. So sad that your anger won't allow you to watch the news to become a better informed citizen.

No, I'm not staying up for Trump. But I am standing up for being informed and aware so that you can come to your own unadulterated decisions.
5
At least President Piss Goblin has that huge reservoir of public trust and goodwill that he built up during the election to sustain him in these trying times.
6
I listened to it on radio. It was a pile of bollocks, but there's an interesting quality to Herr Drumpf's voice. If you're not actually listening to the words, the tone is very reassuring and assertive. There must be a segment of the populace that's mesmerized by it. There's already a field of study called psycholinguistics, but it's for something else. What could we call a field of study of the psychological reaction to vocalization? There are clearly doctorate theses available studying Trump and Palin for sure. It could be a highly technical field, too, with voice spectrum analyses, cadence, and time graphs.
7
Brooklyn dear, his speech patterns reminds me of a slightly addled old woman. Like a crazy old aunt you call or visit out of a sense of duty.
8
Buzzfeed is "a legitimate news organization"? I'm sorry, this BuzzFeed? Try again.

9
@8,

You could've made your point without forcing me to read that list of "25 Times Kim Kardashian was Literally You".

I hope you burn in Hell.
10
@8:

Well, it's no less a legitimate news organization than Breitbart - and we know how much Trump loves that virtual rag.
11
Buzzfeed is not failing. Their sales are up. It's true their (fanciful) valuation has been revised down to a somewhat less over imaginative number. And their unrealistic sales goal was reduced from a laughably huge number to a different laughably huge (but smaller) number. So the venture capital fantasy around the company is not as unrealistic. Whatever that means.

In the realm of non-imaginary stuff, Buzzfeed isn't failing.
12
@4 How would watching Herr Gropenführer massacre truth and the English language make anyone more informed?
13
@7 Now that you mention it, his pronouncements do overlap with those of the mentally ill babblers and screamers you run into here and there on the streets and subways of New York.

My question remains, though. What is it about his voice that convinced so many to vote for that lunatic? What is it about any madman's voice that lets them accrue followers? Manson's name popped up in the news this week, and leave us not forget Jim Jones, or the great fascists of the 20th century. Certainly it was not merely their words, but something in their voices as well.
14
Trump lambastes NYT and their subscriptions go up 400%, Trump calls out SNL and they get their best ratings in eight years. Meryl Streep, Buzz Feed and Acosta have been given the golden ticket of being individually criticized and called out by Trump.
15
We MUST refuse to normalize Trump's behavior, his amorality, his bigotry, his misogyny, his greed, his graft, his callousness, his scapegoating, his gas lighting, his enabling of all the worst of human weaknesses. Yes, there are obviously many people who are that way, but there are also many who aren't. We can't sit by and allow what Trump is to be acceptable and normal, or we"ll be back in Reagan's world, when it was okay for our President and his Cabinet and Administration to stand by laughing while people were dying!

I refuse to go back!
16
Brooklyn, to be fair, it's not quite like that. It's more like a widowed grandmother or great aunt who used to be really sweet and fun, but who is now sliding into dementia and watches too much fox news because she's lonely and depressed. If Doris Roberts or Ruth Gordon were still alive, it would be interesting to have them perform some of his lines.
17
He's also a rapist, which was like 1,100 scandals ago.
18
@16 Well, a matter of degree, I suppose. Still, would you give that crazy old aunt a Congress to manipulate, a podium on which to hold forth to the press, or an army to command? So, why did we give it to Trump?

I'm kind of serious here. Is there something in the voices (tone, spectrum, rhythm, etc.) of charismatic sociopaths that helps sway their followers?
19
@Cat, Brooklyn, I'm totally baffled at the people who consider his speeches to be "fascinating." Remember the slowed down versions that were hitting the interwebs a few months ago? He sounded like an insane drunk.
20
@12: Because it's live TV. Next question?
21
This is the exact site that he was referring to when he talked about "fake news"! Maybe you all should get your facts straight about Jeff Sessions. He was a mighty fine prosecutor who brought down the KKK in Alabama, single-handily! He had numerous witnesses, of various races, support him during the Senate hearings. One of the only dissenters was Cory Booker, a nightly fine senator, but not so great at telling the truth. Stop ragging on Trump and his cabinet so much! You wouldn't see Republicans whine like this if Killary Clinton won! Suck it up! #MAGA
22
@21:

Are we talking abut the same Sessions who said he thought the KKK was OK until he learned some of them were dirty, filthy, pot smokers? The same Sessions who pressured his assistants to drop the lynching case against Klan members he now tries to take credit for prosecuting? The same Sessions who once characterized the NAACP, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the National Council of Churches as un-American organizations teaching un-American values? The same Sessions who was denied a federal bench position because of his racist views?

THAT Sessions?
23
@6: It's simple.

He's a Con Man. He uses Con Man language techniques. It's how he won. America got conned. People who find it reassuring or interesting are marks, rubes, etc.

Decipimur Specie Recti.
24
@21: actually, we would, and did, see Republican whining. And obstructing. And investigating nothing. For 8 straight years. Perhaps you were asleep?

Please go fuck your Virginian self.
25
@24: There was a lot of whining and obstruction, but the GOP was able to expand their grip on basically every facet of US governance in that time as well.

The test of the Democrats in the next 4-8 years will be if they can do the same, or if it will just be whining.
26
A reporter should have asked him to open one of those folders and show the documents. He would have refused of course, but he has to be called on that kind of nonsense.
27
>Buzzfeed is a legitimate news organization.
>Source: Buzzfeed

Fucking lel I hope that was a legitimate mistake.
28
@26 Good point. Chances are those were just theatrical props, not the real deal, and not signed by anyone. Just copies of old agreements, or even just blank paper.

Please wait...
