@5 Time Magazine is frequently ugly and propagandic. Their covers don't just slam the saturation and contrast and add in a crappy Instagram filter for burning the corners to give the picture some added weight.

A poorly framed photo of Trump bobbleheads doesn't become meaningful by making it look like it came out of a Zach Snyder film.

Yeah, all those effects are hamfisted. Really distracting; like every time, the photographer wants to draw your attention to his handiwork and not the subject. The vignetting is particularly crude -- it almost seems like ironic commentary on Instagram filters or something?

You could still use that look. The contrast, the darkness, the vignette effect. But dial it down about six notches. Stick a huge fucking watermark logo on it it all you care about is everyone knowing your name.

The photographer agrees with the vignetting critique- thanks for the feedback. Revised and resent the edits but I don't post the images, nor do I write the headlines on Slog, so I dunno when they'll be published. Have not properly slept for days and was sapped- my bad. But basically, if you guys are so into photography, hope you're out doing your thing and having as much fun with it as I am. Nate - There's no need to bow to the whims of your photographic inferiors. The pics have a beautiful, striking quality to them with the vignetting, and I don't recommend that you change them. The Stranger's readers are all criticism and little praise; I wouldn't let your style be affected by their hubris.

@10 - There is a difference between photography qua photography, and photography as art. You should learn this distinction. It might help you better process Nate Gowdy's work.

I wonder if the dude in the "grab 'em" shirt - with the image of Trump grabbing a pussycast - has a mother, daughter, sister, neice, or female friend or coworker at all in his life. Because if he does, he needs to ask them about their experiences with being "grabbed" ie inappropriately touched by a male at some point in their lives. Nearly all women have. Often it happens to us when we're very young. With me, I was 17, and working as a nanny one summer, in charge of two kids, ages 5 and 7. After the kids exited the ice cream parlor and headed to the car, this middle aged man approached and purposely brushed against one of my breasts, then did it again, while smiling in my face and saying how much he loved "flower children" (I was wearing a tye dye tshirt). I repeat - I was 17 yrs old and in charge of 2 young kids. He saw them walk by and saw that they had been sitting in the same booth as me. I had no way of knowing if this guy was going to follow me outside, if he was going to follow us home, etc. He got off on violating a teenager - what else was he capable of? I had no way of knowing. Did he know he caused a young girl to be terrified she would be followed home? That the kids she was in charge in might not be safe? This was before cell phones existed so I couldn't just get on the phone to the cops.

So ya. Go ahead, "grab em" guy - just ask. Once you've heard what your mother, sisters, neice, (ex) wife (ex) girlfriend have experienced at the hands of guys just like you, maybe burn that tshirt in a big bonfire along with your Lock Her Up signs, Trump That Bitch shirts, etc.
