Last night Trump asked all the Obama-era U.S. prosecutors to resign. Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (which encompasses Manhattan), and who was asked to stay on by Trump in November, refused.
His office was preparing to take on a "major public corruption case involving former aides and associates of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and is looking into allegations of pay-for-play around Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York," according to the New York Times.
After Bharara refused to step down, Trump fired him.
Bharara wrote on Twitter:
I did not resign. Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life.
