Government paid coroner's office investigates government paid cops. What could go wrong/

Sounds like suicide by cop to me, which is just sad and horrible for all involved.

When the call is for a possible suicidal person with a gun, could we send somebody who's trained in talking down a suicidal person with a gun? Do we not have enough trained people?

Or once the cops see she's not bleeding out and she's not showing her hands, did they consider backing off and getting a negotiator at that point, rather than grabbing the blanket? Granting they'd also get blamed if she had killed herself while they backed off, but is it an option they consider?

With all that, I don't think we can condemn the cops just because things happened fast. Sometimes they happen fast. Sometimes it only takes one to escalate. I don't know about here though.

It is proper and historically established that the Coroner's Office is at least one of the proper agencies to do this type of investigation. And who would you like to pay for the Coroner’s Office investigation?

Having said that, I've always thought that these days, "deadly force" is used way too often in these types of situations - regardless of the color / nationality of the subjects, that "de-escalation" and other human skills is not taught nor used as a first-line approach. A lot of people say police "shoot first and ask questions later", and this is borne out in facts. There is less risk to the officer to just shoot (and kill) the perp, and rarely are police officers taken to task for a killing - "I felt threatened."

One wonders if police get into the business of policing thinking there is no risk, that they will never feel threatened? It goes with the territory, and if their only solution is to blow someone away, something's wrong.

Renee Davis' attorney's name is NOT Black Horse. This piece needed an editor.
