I spent time with Mr. Grant at a fundraiser he had recently, and asked him several questions about the impacts of some of his housing proposals. Specifically how it will impact the ability of landlords to protect the community and staff when a tenant displays threatening behavior or actions, or how to balance the financial blow a landlord faces (non-profit landlords that don't have the money) when they need to take legal action to protect the tenants or the property, with some of his his proposed laws. He only gave me blanket talking points, couldn't have any meaningful discussion, and then blew me off by name dropping popular developers he claims to have worked with.
I've been a non-profit landlord for homeless and low income folks in Seattle for 15 years. I am 100% pro-tenant rights. But Mr. Grant is betting the farm on this hand and he seemed ignorant to the actual workings of property management and housing tenants. I went in with high hopes and came out very disappointed.

Glad to see Herbold endorsed Grant. His work with the Tenants Union and Solid Ground will make him a great advocate for renters and low income persons. I hope he wins.

"...his campaign platform "reminds us that we must do more for those with the least,"

Except end exclusionary zoning, apparently.

Please wait...
