“We don’t want confrontation and we don’t want anybody to be unsafe.”

Good luck with that. You're going to need it.
2
How-to:

1) Review footage and reports from the counter-protest last week in Portland

2) Stay home
3
Supporting sharia law in a town full of non-Muslims, women and gays is like wearing a KKK hood to a Juneteenth celebration.

Nevertheless, I'm sure some morons will show up and hold signs.
4
@3 That presupposes they're actually marching against a real threat of Sharia Law becoming a thing in the U.S., which it's not and they aren't. They're marching to intimidate and terrorize Muslim Americans, which is what people will be showing up to counterprotest.
7
The Portland protesters looked like a bunch of thugs: they were arrested and their protest busted up, while the white supremacists marched peacefully. The optics of showing up for a fight picked by assholes is terrible. Show your solidarity some other way: perhaps a mass volunteer project, social media campaign or other peaceful, productive demonstration on another side of town.

@4
It is not terrorizing someone to say you do not agree with their oppressive and misogynistic religious laws.

If Muslims want rapprochement, let them explicitly condemn the killing of apostates, the persecution of gays, the unequal treatment of women and the second-class status of non-Muslims.

No Muslim I have met will even condemn their prophet Mohammed for trading in slaves and having sex with captive women.

Why does the leftist Stranger spend their time shilling for a patriarchal slaver's religion?

Wake up to yourselves.

10
So David in Shoreline can be counted as David at Seattle City Hall tomorrow.
13
I'll be countering. Thanks for this post Tess.
14
@9. Most Chistians I have met have not condemned that either. It does not come up much, really. Given the masdive overlap of ACT and Confederate flag waving assholes (explicite endorsers of slavery and rape), you'd think you could join forces with the pro-sharia types. But nah... y'all are bigots so you can't.
15
@9:

Have you ever read Exodus? Especially Exodus 21?

Do you condemn the acts enumerated in that Holy Book of The Bible?
16
@9
Red Herring, ignoratio elenchi

Red card. Off the field, back to the bench.

Geniuses of the left, supporting the following:
Death penalty for adulterers
Death penalty for homosexuals
Death penalty for apostasy
Testimony of a woman is worth 1/2 that of a man
Female genital mutilation
Women may not travel outside the home without the presence of a male member of the house
And my all-time favorite, Taqiyya - it's fine to lie to moron lefty non-muslims - and they're actually stupid enough to believe it.

I'm not saying an 'ant-sharia' march is needed (although from the idiocy displayed here maybe I'm wrong), but to stand up FOR sharia as so many in this leftist eco-topia are doing is beyond catatonically ignorant. Feel free to travel to where sharia is in practice as the law of the land (I have), and challenge these laws. Please.

@15
No. I am not talking about the book of Exodus. If you have issues with ancient Jewish scriptures, take your concerns to the Jews. Ask them to stop blowing up nightclubs and concert venues in the name of Moses and the Ten Commandments.

I ask that people be consistent about their progressive principles and condemn a system of misogynistic and oppressive religious laws.

Your answer is "no". Instead you will evade by bringing up the book of Exodus.

So, own it. You are willing to defend sharia law, which legalizes slavery, child marriage, female genital mutilation, the execution of apostates, the suppression of free speech, the unequal rights of women in marriage and divorce, the vile practice of sexual relations with female captives and the practice of throwing gays off elevations.

And why are you willing to sell your soul for a jumble of bigoted religious writ? To stick it to ACT for America! Sad.
19
ACTFA is a broadly anti-Muslim group that believes practising Islam is inherently un-American. Fearing sharia is just their current branding effort to whip up talk about something that is actually un-American, in the sense of "incompatible with the US legal system and not happening", instead of about their bigoted selves.

Do you have a personal interest in a country where sharia is a real issue? Be an activist in that country, okay. In this country, don't play ACTFA's game of giving a shit about sharia.

Somehow, we're still having conversations about this stuff without mentioning that these are white nationalists. Whether it's Kyle "Based Stick Man" Chapman, the Proud Boys, the Oathkeepers, the III percenters, the Cascade Legion, or the average frogposter - They. Are. White. Nationalists. They're militaristic, authoritarian, predominantly Christian (with a smattering of Odinists thrown in) and if you tweet at Merriam-Webster's account tomorrow asking for the definition of fascism, they might just send you a picture of tomorrow's rally.

That doesn't even touch on the members of the afformentioned groups that are actual, literal Nazis. They've been scouting downtown for the past week, being general assholes when refused service, getting thrown out of Pike Place Market, etc. Nazis? In your town? Yes, it is more fucking likely than you think. But why talk about that when we can quibble over the finer points of sharia, which is not and will not be enforced in Seattle, Washington State, or the United States at all for that matter.

It's like arguing over whether or not it's cruel to keep unicorns as pets while Nazis are organizing a March Against Unicorn Captivity. It does not matter. No one has a pet unicorn. No one is opposing the march because they support pet unicorns. They're opposing the march because it's organized BY NAZIS.
21
Why would anyone (especially a Liberal) be angry about a protest against sharia law? Sharia is a direct contradiction to the constitution and violates an incredible amount to of civil rights.

Wake up,people
22
@18, @21, &c

Where, exactly, IN THE U.S., is Shariah law about to happen?

Answer: absolutely nowhere, you fucking snowflakes.

Ergo, this is not about protesting shariah; as stated above, this is about waving dicks around, and attempting to intimidate Muslims.

Stop pretending you're too stupid to know this.

If you want to protest Shariah, go to Saudi Arabia. You know, where it ACTUALLY EXISTS.
24
@23
Did you ever hear the story of the shepherd boy who cried "white supremacists" every time he wanted attention? At first, the other villagers came running, thinking his flock was in danger. But when they discovered he was deluding them for effect, they stopped believing him. You can check out this children's fable from any library, and I would suggest you do so.

@22
Why worry about sharia if it is not happening here in the USA? I am personally NOT worried about sharia happening here until we get to a certain demographic tipping point.

I am worried about the misinformation and manipulation of the US public regarding the true nature of sharia.

This has reached the point that bands of do-gooder morons are literally parading around with signs defending a system of laws that kills, tortures and oppresses millions of people worldwide.

All of this is driven by the well-spun victim narrative of the US Muslim population who enjoy a quality of life better than 90% of the Muslim world, but claim to be "scared" if someone in a free-speech society denounces their draconian religious laws.
25
So do the fascist posters here actually believe in the fiction "pro-sharia liberals" because they never get out of their caves or are they not actually that ignorant but instead just knowingly concern trolling?
26
From the Pew Research Center back in 2012: Religious Groups’ Official Positions on …

Note that while there are Christian groups (the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Unitarian Universalists, United Church of Christ) and Jewish groups (Reform and Reconstructionist Jewish movements) that support or allow for same-sex marriage -- and that there is no universal Buddhist or Hindu position on same-sex marriage -- "Islamic law forbids homosexuality, and the practice of homosexuality is a crime in many Islamic countries, including Iran and Saudi Arabia.Islamic law.

My guess is that, among all religious people in the U.S., the percentage who feel that same-sex marriage -- and even same-sex civil unions -- should be illegal would be the largest among Muslims (and smallest among Jews.)
27

I think our bombs are protest enough. No?
28
Sharia law is disgustingly and brutally misogynistic, anti-Gay and anti-science. The world would be a far better place if it was radically reformed.

Same with these protesters. Idiot provocateurs really only looking to quash reasonable discourse.
29
Jash you are full of shit, and you're smart enough to know it, you disingenuous fuck of a concern troll. "We'z just makin' sure poor misinformed y'all libruls ain't misunderstandin' what Sharia is!" What a load of bloody pig shit. Yep, that's why all those avowed white supremacists are right there with ya, just worried that libs aren't holding clear concepts of Sharia, nothing to do with driving wedges that split off of all Muslims, enact racist travel bans, and make the USA a whiter country with whiter supremacist values. Nope, just concerned about educating, that's all, ignore the actual Nazi's and such I'm standing next to.

Get the fuck out of here with that fucking idiot bullshit you hump. Are we three years old? You showing up at our birthday party in a Superman mask doesn't mean you're bending steel.
30
@29
Oh, Clara T. You sound so tough and righteous, especially when you use lots of f-words and call me a "hump". The masochist in me feels all shaken and hurt and debased, but somehow excited too. Everyone else here tries to incorporate facts or reasoning in their comments, but you have stripped your comment down to a thrilling primal insult, like bull hippos slinging dung at each other in a National Geographic nature video.

Very, very cool, Clara T!
