Today is the anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting.
Its also not that many years after the attempted mass murder in Neighbors on Capitol Hill.
The Secretary of Education laughs at the idea of protecting LGBT kids against bullying.
The Secretary of Housing thinks gay people should be shot.
The Vice President's only claim to fame is that he actually did sign a law into effect allowing gay people to be denied equal access to public accommodation.
@3 thinks this is a joke.
I don't.
Where the fuck was the Stranger staff during the DC March on Sunday?
If you think climate change is an emergency- which it is, albeit a slow-moving one- so is gay people being murdered. If you think its wrong to pay women less than men- which it is- so is not paying gay people at all because youve just fired them.
I know WA is a safe haven, and Seattle especially so. You're in that beautiful little bubble where every gay can afford the lovely vacations advertised in that sponsored Delta ad you have permanently fixed to the top page of Slog. The rest of gay America isnt as fortunate. And if you want us, the working class gays, to get out there and stand next to you on a freezing cold day in January- which we did- I did- you need to get yoru ass to DC and stand next to me when I march on fucking DC.
@4 You're seriously accusing THE STRANGER of not caring enough about gay rights and the danger LGBTQ folks face? You're seriously sitting there gay-splaining to staffers and readers who HAVE lost loved ones to bigotry and hate?
Climate change is slow and not as important? Tell it to the Marshall Islands, the Maldives, AND the Alaskan and Louisiana's people whose villages, towns and islands are losing landmass EVERY.FUCKING.DAY!
And the droughts, wildfires and flood victims! Just because it's not happening to YOU and YOURS doesn't mean it's not happening! And before you rant at me about not caring about gay rights, I lost my brother, the person I loved most in the world, AND several friends to AIDS because of Reagan's bigotry and cruelty, and I have been marching for gay rights since I was 8!
Seriously, you're holding a grudge because somebody didn't take your picture?

Solidarity goes both ways.
