I thought I'd be over it by now, but I'm still pissed that the Seattle Slimes and The Strangler formed an internet lynch mob to politically assassinate Ed Murray by using absolutely despicable anti-gay tactics.

I'm boycotting the illegitimate mayor's race. Best of luck to the candidate that survives this shitshow.

@2: I see it less as anti-gay and more as pro-gay; giving the accuser credence when alleging molestation no matter who they are.

we do it for women who's character is assassinated after making such allegations (see cosby, trump, woody allen's stepkid, etc), we should do the same for middle age men who where once teenage hustlers, right?

yes, the accusations should be proven in a court, and ed was driven out by them, and never got his day. life is unfair.

I definitely disagree. Reading the repulsive comments on both sites showed how some people view all gay men as sexual predators, even in supposedly liberal Seattle, and the smear campaign just played on their bigotry.

It's the ugliest episode of ratfucking, dirty tricks in Seattle politics that I can recall, and it's especially appalling that The Strangler played such a prominent role in fanning the flames after their crap 2016 election coverage tore our online community apart.

Was hoping this was going to be either him announcing Seattle was going to rezone all SFH zones as 85+ foot MFH zones citywide - or - he was going to endorse a challenger in Position 9.

@14: Mayor Murray will finish the term to which we voters elected him. He'll then continue to reside in Seattle, having the status of an elder statesman. Perhaps he'll run for another office, as he's been a favorite of local voters since the mid-1990s.

You, meanwhile, can leave anytime. There are plenty of small towns out there in rural Washington, towns where the main road is paved with state funds, the local farms all get federal subsidies, and the inhabitants pride themselves on how independent of big government they are. Jesus is the answer to every problem, and conveniently, the Voice of God booms from the ubiquitous AM radios, sounding oddly like that of a poorly-educated drug addict.

The folks there all know -- they just know -- that Seattle's liberal policies have brought the city to the brink of ruin. None of them would ask you to explain Seattle's low unemployment, booming economy, and forest of construction cranes, so you wouldn't have to evade answering.

You'd fit in really, really well there.
