I mean, it looks like the dude was trying to drive away... I guess? It was probably "in the direction of" the officer?
To be honest, I'm skeptical of the extent that the officer(s) felt they were in mortal danger. For one, they shot and killed the suspect, but the car itself did not stop, and no officers were hit. Shooting the suspect did not resolve the potential source of danger - which of course turned out not to be dangerous.
@2 so, the thing here, is that we *know* the officers were in fact not at risk of serious injury because no officer was seriously injured; and to the extent that they reasonably felt they were at risk (meeting the threshold of RCW or not), their actions did nothing to stop the source of danger. The might as well have intentionally shot at a random passerby for all the good killing the suspect did them.
