I've already mentioned the brutality depicted in Spectrum Dance Theatre's latest, (IM)PULSE, but I forgot to mention there is one funny moment in the show. A character who has been gay-bashed and is on his deathbed recites a list of notable queers throughout history, and their names are projected on the wall behind him as he goes, including Proust, Virginia Woolf, Gertrude Stein, E.M. Forster, Dan Savage, Anderson Cooper, and... "Mike Pence!" The crowd, who has been desperate for any levity at all, laughs. The character quickly adds that he's kidding. It's not funny because there's anything wrong with being gay, it's funny because Mike Pence would be enraged. Someone, get Mike Pence to Seattle Rep before the show closes on Sunday.
