Oh c'mon, those laws aren't for people like her!
2
Yeah, I'm sure that's the first time someone under age had access to tequila at Neumo's. Much ado about nothing.
3
Serious candidates diminished by an infantile forum, hosted by sophomoric 'media' in a city that reeks of piss.

Progressive Politics 2017
4
Maybe Neumos management should spend more time on figuring out how to get people inside their venue in under 90 minutes and less time on stupid stuff like this.
5
Free tequila is a hella deal. Wonder if Jenny will flout the law so innocently as mayor???
6
@3, shhhh you're letting out Tim Keck's secrets!!
7
@2 Considering that, not so long ago, the alcohol board took pictures of guys hanging out at The Eagle in order to heavily fine them (as if...), this flagrant and public disregard of state law is more problematic for Neumo's liquor license than for underage drinking.
7
Next forum, debate or whatever....throwing free joints to the crowd is a sure winner. Maybe a high school graduation ceremony to woo all those 18 year old voters
8
@4 the three principals have shown they like throwing events more than ... you know ... actually making stuff happen.
9
I'm actually with @2. It'd be rather ignorant, but nevertheless understandable for her to not expect an event hosted in a bar to not be all ages. And the other concern -- that raised by the bar owner about tossing out the liquor in a liquor serving establishment -- is true to the letter of the law. But that law exists to prevent cheap drunks from bringing in their own drinks to a place, thereby undercutting the establishments profits. This obviously wasn't her intent and it, too, was something that perhaps shouldn't have been done, but was relatively harmless in the scope of things. Draconian enforcement of puritanical liquor laws is freaking annoying.

(full disclosure = I live in Portland. But we have the same overzealous goons policing bars like they're doing god's freaking work. So, so, so many more worthwhile pursuits for city resources & taxpayer dollars.)

Hey
11
What's the matter, Stranger writer can't take a joke?
12
Moneyed Elites don't have to follow silly State Laws.

Everyone knows that.

Just like City Council coverage should only be driven by incumbents who have money, right, SECB? How dare challengers not be wealthy!!
13
@3: FTW
14
I mean... there has to be a repercussion for this, right? Like, stone cold has to?
15
Oh NOW the Stranger is a stickler for the rules. Puhleeze. I'm not voting Jenny but I find this stunt kind of endearing...
16
Look it happened, Neumos security grabbed the bottles, and we all moved on. Nothing to see here. Plenty of other stuff to focus on when thinking about our Mayoral Candidates right? It was kind of funny if it wasn't for our Draconian laws we have in this state.
17
If you're under 21 and attending a fucking mayoral candidate forum you deserve a GODDAMN BOTTLE OF TEQUILA!
18
I like her.
19
Yeah--still with Nikkita.
20
Ridiculous event - oh, so now we're judging candidates based on silly talents? How about the talent to, uh, actually govern the city? Durkan made a dumb mistake, but given that it's a BAR, it's not so shocking. Also, like @15, I think it's really sweet that The Stranger is a now a stickler for THE RULES as handed down by the State Liquor Control Board. Hilarious. Also, I love how the ideological Puritans in the city have now equated a silly mistake with "rules don't apply to me" corporate elitism. And we wonder why so many people make fun of Seattle.
21
I couldn't care less, and I'm a recovering alcoholic.
22
This was bad, but you weren't going to point out that Durkan referred to Nikkita Oliver as "a colored person?"
23
Yaaaa!!! Free Tequila!!! A bottle in every pocket!!! Vote for Jenny!!! I always encourage women to drink tequila..........makes them crazy......
24
It seems odd that the Stranger of all newspaper is concerned with underaged drinking. I seem to remember the opposite during their campus issues, as well as other drugs. I personally don't care, but Stranger is just being hypocritical to be anti-establishment in this case.
25
I find this article more about undercutting and unfairly criticising a candidate than the actual act. It's laughable if we were to compare these few bottles to the hundreds of technically unlawful public pot smokers at Hempfest that are considerately overlooked.

Please wait...
