Any idea what brand names these blueberries are sold under?

One factor that isn't mentioned here is that smoke drifting in from Canadian wildfires is extremely thick in that area and air quality has been extremely bad for several days. The health department warns people not to work or exercise outdoors - these men were working 14 hour days six days a week. I went to the farm to help protest and could see for myself the thick drifting smoke. The strike has since grown to over 200 workers, who have all been summarily fired and turned it of their - inadequate - farmworker housing. They are camping outdoors on the property of friendly neighbors. If anyone would like to donate to their legal defense or a fund to buy supplies they can do so on the Community to Community webpage.

P.S. - the Bellingham herald reports that this same farm has been fined twice in recent years for using solid fecal matter as fertilizer and not following proper procedures, resulting in serious contamination of the Sumas river. Perhaps those who feel that the lives of Mexican migrant workers are not worth protecting (those who always comment things lIke "they don't have to come here if they don't like the conditions") may feel that the river is more important. These farm owners care about neither.

Deplorable!

Pretty hard to determine a cause of death.

something of note:

the workers who were fired could not find other work because of expired visas...

so the farm was employing workers without valid visas... ???

For the person who asked about brand names above - apparently the berries are marketed under the "nature ripe" brand. I'm going to try to google contact information for that brand and make some phone calls to the buyers.

@6 above - yes. The employer has the responsibility to renew the H2A visas. They did not.

Please wait...
