Just lost all respect for the Seattle HRC.

@1 screw that in our Socialist Utopia!

@1: He'll still have one, if it ever goes to trial, after he resigns.

This is about sending the right message to the community.
6
The correct message is that people are innocent until proven guilty. No gay person should lose a job because of allegations of a sex crime. I lived through gay people losing jobs because they were gay. Railroading the mayor out of office is not appropriate; as a gay man it offends me.

@6: I believe that's what Bill Clinton and Donald Trump said that about their accusers as well, also Bill Cosby, Bill O'Reilly, plenty of examples of all political parties in government and in business.

The public trust is more important than their careers. The mayor should take the high road which will be advantageous for him in the long run.

@6 what does his being gay have to do with 3 people coming out and saying he abused them, and then after he tried to paint at least the most recent of the victims as a lying criminal, Oregon Child Protective Services saying "actually he DID sexually abuse a child?"

please explain.

I believe that's what Bill Clinton and Donald Trump said that about their accusers as well...

Well, since they've each resigned over those accusations, obviously Murray must as well.

Please let us know when if you ever figure out why Ed hasn't resigned.

@6 what does his being gay have to do with 3 people coming out and saying he abused them...

Because (a) there is a long-held, yet false belief amongst anti-gay bigots that gay men are sexual predators, and (b) the bigoted, anti-gay attorney from Tacoma who recruited two of the accusers did so because he knew quite a lot of people still believe (a).

...he tried to paint at least the most recent of the victims as a lying criminal...

That's because the accuser -- who has yet to show he's a victim, BTW -- is, in fact, a lying criminal.

...Oregon Child Protective Services saying "actually he DID sexually abuse a child?"

Because Oregon Protective Services [sic] never actually said, "actually he DID sexually abuse a child." The document in question says there is reason to believe Murray may have done so. Since the police had already investigated Murray on that belief, and since the local prosecutor refused to seek charges, there was nothing new or interesting in what one case worker at Oregon's Child Protective Services did say in the report.

You're welcome.

@9: My comparison is about how politicians try to belittle their accusers - nothing about resignation from office per se. My comment explicitly spanned both government and business. I'm afraid you misread my comments.

And, given the lawsuit against Clinton was dismissed for lack of merit, you've made a really good case for why Murray should not resign. Good on ya, toots!
13
@12: Nice try. Which lawsuit? It doesn't matter. I'm not taking about lawsuits. I'm talking about doing the right thing.

That we disagree on that is fine.
14
Also, if this was a more recent case against Murray he might have more sympathy. I find Simpson's accounts very credible. This baggage has been following Murray for decades, and he should have had the decency to clear it up before running for office and taking advantage of the public's trust.
15
Well, I for one am feeling a little uncertain about all this.

Before we force him to resign, can we at least strip him to his skivvies, tie him up, and toss him into Elliot Bay to see if he floats?
16
@4, Really? Can you site your source or are you just pulling this out of your ass as always?
17
I'm afraid you misread my comments.

I'm afraid you misread mine. I was telling you why your demand for Murray to resign is a complete waste of your time.

Which lawsuit?

Let's take it slowly. Bill Clinton was accused in a lawsuit of being a sexual predator. That suit was dismissed for lack of merit. Ed Murray was accused in a lawsuit of being a sexual predator. That lawsuit was withdrawn. Does the repeated failure of these lawsuits suggest anything to you about the value of the accusations they contained?

I find Simpson's accounts very credible.

In one account, he traded sex with Murray for Murray allowing him to use drugs in Murray's home. In a recent account, he admitted Murray had actually put him into treatment for drug abuse.

You do believe both accounts, right?
18
Mayor Murray has lost my trust. It's one thing for one person to come forward but when four people come forward alleging sex crimes it's pretty damning. My question is, how did Mayor Murray become a Washington state legislator in the first place? He should resign - he creates a distraction for the political process in Seattle.

Please wait...
