Look, they pulled weapons on every person running in fear, not just on Bennett. No reason to play the race card. Every one of them. Nuff said.
2
@1 Yeah, they handcuffed, like, 50 people running from scene, or joining people running from inside the scene, where they had been told by police to flee the scene. So far no one is heard on camera using the N word, so race was not involved.
3
This is hilarious. Bennett is blowing his money on a civil lawyer on a case where he was detained for 10 minutes for running like a psycho from an active shooter scene. Way to utilize that platform, champ.
4
Well, they didn't actually shoot the black guy they handcuffed for running - as instructed - from an active shooter scene, so clearly race couldn't possibly have been a factor.
5
Cops lie.
6
@3 He didn't run like a psycho, what are you talking about? In the video police say "everybody out" over and over and over..." People are hunkered down, then running toward the exits all over this video. Some are even just milling about, unsure what is happening. Police were yelling "everybody out..." but when he ran outside, with other people, he was viewed as suspicious according to the LVMPD Undersherriff. This is seriously messed up.

Man do I love Mike B but he's out of his mind on this one. It's weak and disgusting that anyone is throwing race into this. Watch the video and say it with me..."black guy, black guy, black guy, black guy...". That's me watching the video and seeing all of the everyday Vegas-enjoying men of color on camera that were not "singled out" as the cops were assessing the scenario. I choked when he said he was singled out for being black in his press release/letter. Singled out? On the strip, at Drai's, on a fight night, when Drai's has a hip hop show...? Mike, there are thousands of black men all around you. You caught their attention for a some not at all racist reason, they got you down hard (you're huge), cuffed you, checked you out and released you. This may shock a few folks but as a 6'3" 280Lb white guy (me) they would 100% take me down hard and act threatening until I'm secured too. You had a bad night, Mike, and for that I hope you heal; but this ain't why you're sitting during the anthem.
8
I thought that what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas? You failed Bennett...you failed.
10
@9: Of course, you predictablly point to video editing so that your racist narrative can always remain a possibility. So do you really think that the Las Vegas police would take the time and have the motivation to do such a Machiavellian task?
11
"Due to Bennett’s actions and the information the officers had at the time, they believed Bennett might’ve been involved in the shooting and they gave chase,” McMahill said.

Yeah, he was walking, at night, while black. It's a well known crime.

12
"although the officer that handcuffed Bennett did not have his camera activated at the time."

What the hell is the point of these cameras if they're so frequently off when needed most? I haven't watched the videos, though it sounds like he may not have much of a case. But had the officer simply had his cam activated, this would be pretty cut & dry. Instead we're left to speculate and make unfounded assumptions based on second hand accounts and our own biased preconceptions.
14
@13: As long as that "other video" never surfaces you can feel validated I suppose.
16
What a coinkydink! The officer didn't have his camera running. Golly.

@14. #13 Lil smoky is in his feelings this morning. Which, coincidentally is where unintelligent people draw their power from.

Michael Bennet is a liar and a crybaby and should be ashamed to keep pretending he's an activist. We should replace him on the D line with the Hispanic cops that handled him like a third grade ballerina and get a little more Latino diversity on our team.

to the A-holes saying Bennett is wrong in his assessment of the incident, unless you are a minority and have been dealing with racism your whole life, you have no idea what it feels like. It does not matter that there are other minorities in the area. And it is fine that they were suspicious of him, but the gun to the head and the threat of blowing his head off, was unnecessary. Now on the other hand, if you were a cop and called to a busy casino/nightclub after a boxing match in vegas and there is the possibility of an active shooter, you don't have time to suss out whether a certain person is a threat or not. if you suspect somebody you are going to take them down and neutralize the situation for the safeties of others. I think he has a right to try this in court. If you don't think police brutality has gotten out of hand recently, then you live under a rock. is it because we have technology that allows us to film and view these incidents almost immediately. that doesn't matter. what matters is the problem is now visible and michael bennett has the means to fight this to hopefully set a precedence. when you want to make change there has to be starting point. this could be it for Bennett's cause and I think that's what he is trying to do here. Black Santa you're my favorite Seahawk! GO HAWKS!!!

oh and muffy(@17) eat a dick!

@7: whitesplaining.

vegas is a shithole. no one should go there or live there.

@20

Also a passionate first post. Who do you think it "really" is?

Oh GTFO here with this story! A rich, privileged football player that makes millions has been detained by mistake! Should I feel bad for his ass? It was a mistake. Mistakes happen. He will probably sue the LVPD and get more money (like he needs any more) out of them.

I am not surprised though that The Stranger chose to cover this story about some millionaire football player instead of the one about a nurse that was brutalised by the police. Oh, why did they not cover it? Simple. Because she is white. Who cares if she was brutalised by the cops! Whites are never victims of anything! Let focus on this privileged one instead because blacks are always oppressed. Pfffft.

And also, out of five of the victims of cop shootings only two of them were unjustified. Three of the other ones were thugs (don't do the crime if you can't handle being shot as a possibility) and an insane woman who was a threat to herself, her children, and the police.

Correction: two out of five police shootings that BENNET listed as victims, we're unjustified. Three of the other ones were two thugs (don't do the crime if you can't handle a likelihood of being shot), and an insane woman who was a threat to herself, her children, and the police.

I'm convinced taintdrop actively looks for ways to collaborate with oppressors.

I also lol at anyone who thinks cuck is an insult outside of their circlejerk. I get that it makes you cry being called it afterward, but that doesn't mean anyone else is so sensitive like you.

@25: Hungover?

Please wait...
