That time when Mudede misspelled his own headline.
2
Then there was the time when Durkan talked about "colored people."
3
That time when Durkan will easily clean the fucking floor with Moon's tragically true-life Portlandia ass.
4
Or, that time when Moon can't hold a candle on policy so the local cadre must focus on "personality"
5
@4 are we listening to the same debates? What specific policy are you referring to? I'm sure it comes down to a difference of direction for the city but I think Moon is wonky and up on policy while Durkan just offers non committal generalities.
6
Did anyone else think of the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme song when the camera zoomed in on Sharon Maeda?
7
The sad punchline is that if Moon wins, none of these douchebags will delete their accounts. If Dhingra wins, d-bags still gonna d. So yeah, whatev. Nothing will change as far as online assholery.
8
My kingdom for an snowflake-filled echo chamber!
9
So sick of the blatant bullying disguised as journalism - longtime stranger reader here but pretty disgusted by the mayoral race coverage, or lack of rather.
10
It's the Enemas vs the Assholes in Cage Fight 2017. The suspense is terrible. I hope it will last.
11
@6 I definitely thought of adding the Curb music but fb would've blocked the video for having copyrighted content :(
12
"Would she have done the same for Jessyn Farrell or Cary Moon?"

Gee, Charles, didn't you answer your own question by leading with the fact that Durkan mic-grabbed from Cary Moon???

If there's privilege in action here, it's not racial (white) or gender (male) privilege; heck, it can't even be economic since both Durkan and Moon are rich.

Maybe Durkan's just an ass-hole???
13
I think Jenny Durkan actually can do any Seattle politician better than they can themselves. I can see how that would make her not a great party guest.
14
Actually, the blame lies with KVRU not having a mic everyone on the panel. Otherwise Durkan wouldn't have had to reach over for it.
15
I am pro Moon but didn't you donate to Moon's campaign? Seems relevant to disclose if you are going to write these articles.
17
Arguments about crucial Issues or evidence of genuine corruption and incompetence? Sure, let's hear about it. But this article's spiteful sanctimony reflects its author's desperation to find fault more than it does Durkan's actual flaws. Must all of The Stranger's reporting about Durkan be so unrelievedly negative? I'm not particularly fond of her, but The Stranger's relentless negativity has made me more sympathetic to her. Yes, she's not perfect. Are you? Is anyone?
18
While I also support Moon in this election, I've rolled my eyes more than a few times at what I've taken to be The Strangers's over the top demonization of Durkan (Groover's embarrassing effort to make Vance's $250 donation a story is a real low point for the political coverage here). I'm in the "they're both fine" camp. That said, this anecdote makes me a little more sympathetic to the hostility. Yeesh.
19
No big surprise here. Durkan is a #Pig doing what pigs do.
20
More and more The Stranger's editorial positions are indistinguishable from the lowest common denominator trolls on Slog.

In the age of Trump I will happily vote for either of these candidates.

If it was Nikkita Oliver or Obama who had done the mic grab no doubt Charles would have applauded it and called anyone who criticized it a racist who couldn't stand uppity black people. Apparently Durkan isn't submissive enough for Mudede's liking. You would have to be blind not to notice that modern liberalism expects whites to be humble towards blacks even when they are abusive, such as those 2 black racists who attacked Bernie Sanders. Durkan is assertive, even towards POC. I have zero problem with that. It is ironic that feminism was supposed to be about women not having to be meek and apologetic now requires it in order not to be called a racist.
22
As Durkan spoke for the black woman, who eventually got a chance to speak for herself, Bob Hasegawa leaned over to Cary Moon and said: "White privilege in action."

I just love Bob.
23
I'm sorry, was this supposed to be a critical article demonizing Durkan? Or an article indirectly slamming Oliver by bringing her up again or both? Because during the mic grab I see Durkan as a strong confident woman taking the microphone out of passion to respond to a critical question. (btw, why they had only one mic to transfer between three people is lame). We expect leaders to speak up and not be shut down, activists would be proud.
Charles, if you are so keen on writing about Nikkita Oliver's so called spite (true, oh so true), why haven't we heard a peep from you about Moon's blatent spite in declining a position under Durkan if Durkan wins? Is the vision of Moon so distant that it eclipses everyone else's and she cannot sit at the same table after elections to help Seattle? Is your adoration of Moon blinding you so much that you cannot see her own spite? Sorry, but one of my true tests of character is what a person does AFTER their campaigns. Continue civic improvement and stand for your promises or cry, melt and run away. Were candidates just in it for personal gain and limelight? Moon is making McGinn's after election work in the public look good and Durkan has already shown commitment, poise and grace under fire. I applaud her and will be looking forward to her outspokenness, confidence and intelligent platform where likely she will have her own microphone as Mayor of Seattle.
24
I'm not pleased at the Stranger's desire to replicate the Clinton versus Sanders food fight, just this time going all in the tank for 'Sanders'. Your "they're both fine" last time didn't net enough clicks?

Do you see the issue with contributing to polarization so a chunk of the public ends up thinking Durkan is Mitch McConnell? When in policy terms she's basically Obama (can you name their differences?)

And I am a Moon/Sanders voter.
25
" Because during the mic grab I see Durkan as a strong confident woman taking the microphone out of passion to respond'

I see her being an asshole. "Strong, confident" people don't grab mikes out of other people's hands.

Jenny Durkan has spent nearly her entire career raking in wealth by representing white collar criminals and developers. She achieved special notereity when, in her capacity as US Attorney for Western Washington, she failed to find any evidence of criminal wrongdoing at WAMU, which almost singlehandedly invented subprime mortgages and ultimately fired its 3,400 Seattle employees in a single day after the economy cratered in 2008. Instead of prosecuting perpetrator of RICO crimes at WAMU and the other TBTF Banks, the federal government bailed them out and let 13,000,000 families twist slowly in the foreclosure crisis.

This is a 2010 story that includes Jenny Durkan's role in some really shady BIG money stuff and big land deals for the super wealthy that she worked on before she was anointed US Attorney by the Washington State Democratic machine.

https://www.seattletimes.com/business/po…

The Segale family described in this story are major political donors. Mario and Mark Segale were among the state Democratic Party’s largest contributors in 2008. Since 2003, Segale family members and companies have contributed more than $350,000 to candidates and committees, and spent $400,000 more on lobbyists.

In addition to employing Durkan as their land use attorney they called in some heavy hitters to help guide Tukwila South past regulatory obstacles. Lawyers who represented the family on the project include former state Supreme Court Justice Phil Talmadge and of course Durkan.

Gov. Chris Gregoire, Sen. Patty Murray and Sen. Maria Cantwell are among the elected officials who urged agencies to approve needed permits.

Murray’s former chief of staff began lobbying for the Segales last year. Their previous lobbyist — Durkan’s brother Jamie — helped Tukwila win state and federal earmarks and grants that will pay more than two-thirds of the $26 million cost of a new, five-lane road to serve Tukwila South.

If you want to bring on Ed Murray's second term, vote for Durkan. Jenny will make sure Seattle continues to run like a well oiled machine for rich people while continuing to sweep the homeless population, which is growing at the rate of 20% per year, because funds for mental health services, substance abuse treatment and low income housing are drastically starved of funding while Seattle won't even collect growth impact fees that the legislature authorized in 1990 and most other cities routinely collect.

If you're sick of bizness as usual, vote for Cary Moon and Jon Grant.
27
@26 I hope you don't mind, but I'm stealing this long complaint. Good work!

Can you do a follow up about Durkan's defending the corrupt FIFA?
30
@pattio666, Did Bob really say that? That's hilarious and true. I love him, too, and even more now. It's a shame and a lost opportunity that he's not a candidate.
31
I would think this type of article would be beneath Mudede. What has happened to you, sir? Dirty politics, using the media as a tool to sway votes, by spinning something that was a honest knee-jerk response into a politically incorrect act. ? Anyone who uses this type of article to choose their candidate without researching the truth is doing a disservice to our city. I’m voting Durkan, wisely.
32
@31 You obviously haven't been paying attention this is the norm for Mudede as long as I can remember.

Please wait...
