Citing a Seattle Times story showing that election night returns tend to favor older, more conservative voters, Cary Moon's camp released a press release saying they would "be happy" if the candidate brought in 39.5 percent 45 percent or more of the vote tonight. (The campaign revised this figure in a statement released around 5 p.m, "citing campaign exhaustion and early morning sign waving for this simple math error.") The release states that the campaign expects to gain on Durkan over the following days, noting that younger, leftier Seattleites vote later.

Moon's campaign staff pointed to big gains from Kshama Sawant to beat Richard Conlin and Mike McGinn's surge to come within 3.5 points of Ed Murray. (Why would anyone invite a comparison to a losing candidate?)

As of this yesterday evening, King County elections reported collecting ballots from about 20.6 percent of registered Seattle voters. Elections workers expect about a 48 percent turnout in King County, and while they don't project turnout by city, a spokesperson said they expect Seattle to top the county by one or two percentage points.

King County Elections will certify results on November 28. Whoever wins the mayoral race is scheduled to start work on the same day.
