Indeed. The LW might notice that Seattle strip clubs are well-known to be annoyingly dry, as opposed to Portland.

On the other hand, most local burlesque performances, which typically have bar service, most definitely reveal "any portion of the breast below the top of the areola" because pasties only cover the nipples, and also proudly display the "cleft of the buttocks"... (described more poetically as the "cleft of the back" by Pauline Réage in The Story of O) ..because thongs only cover so much.

Perhaps burlesque performers, a form of creative local stage art the Stranger mysteriously refuses to acknowledge, are our Trojan horse to changing the WSLCB prudery.

(To the time: Video Killed the Radio Star by The Bangles)

I banged you in the rear way back in ninety two-
Walking Pike and Pine intent on turning tricks with someone just like you-
If I was young it didn't stop you coming on my shoe-
Oh a oh
They took the credit for your second round on me!
Rewritten by machine on new technology-
And now I understand the problems you can see-
Oh a oh
Seattle really is just conservative-
Oh a oh
What did you tell them?
Grindr killed the video bar

Not only does Washingon not have what most people would consider "Tittie Bars", it doesn't exactly have regular bars, either. You want booze, they gotta serve food. You want skin, you're drinking soda.

@1 I wonder why more places haven't tried semi-nude type entertainment, like the Bikini Bars in Los Angeles or a sort of burlesque thing as you suggest. Is it nearly impossible to get any sort of new entertainment license for such a thing?

@2 That song was by the Buggles.

$5000/mo is not well paid - it's enough for a small one bedroom apartment. And if I recall there was that all make strip club in Ballard (up near nw 8th and 60th) for years and years and years.

@2: you played yourself. by vanilla ice cube.

As a transplant to Seattle from DC in the 90s I too missed the dancers that were a beautiful back drop or main attraction to a night out in DC. Made Seattle seem alien to most other major cities at the time. I haven't lived in Seattle for many years and just assumed that would have changed. I do remember a brief time then, when a new stripper/dancer bar opened between Pike and Pine (near Bill's pizza somewhere) Both women and men danced and they welcomed men-for-men certain nights. It was pretty good.... no full-monty, but close. However, it didn't last very long. How did they do that with the WSLCB watching I wonder? I guess they had a kitchen somewhere in the dark.

Please wait...
