It is nice to see that the “surveillance society” that is the ominous subject of many a Stranger article is true to form, from the contradictory liberal point of view. I guess we can blame the police, Trump and “the government” for Mr. Frizzelle’s lack of consciousness on this subject. It does make one wonder what would happen if the tables were turned and the watcher became the watched.
Holy cow. Look at the pointy shoes on the guy sitting on the stool, staring at his laptop. He must have some mighty Renaissance feet. 'Spose he could kick some frozen shit, though.
you've outed yourself as at least a one-time visitor to analog coffee. I admit I am also a one-time customer. I never went back, and I hope you don't either, unless you seek after condescension and abuse rather than simply receiving it passively.
If Frizzelle had been observing him with the express purpose of identifying and reporting some sort of violation, THEN @4 might have a point. But, the guy was standing out on a public sidewalk in full view of anyone who happened to be around, not doing anything remotely illegal, and last I checked people watching =/= "surveillance society".
For this to be "the most Seattle thing" ever, the writer would have to be utterly oblivious to what life has been like in all of the other small towns and minor cities throughout the Pacific Northwest for the past 25 years or so.
@13 - Actually, marijuana cannot be consumed in public view, such as on streets or sidewalks or in public parks. In addition, the state's Smoking in Public Places law (RCW 70.160) prohibits smoking of any kind in public places and places of employment. And people watching vs people photographing and posting in public blog are very different things.
