They removed the trees and relocated the bus stop, I suspect the construction company plans to utilize the entire sidewalk like they often do. Arboreal sacrifice for the automobile god!
Perhaps, as is the case with many other humans (yourself excepted apparently), it is possible to care about more than one thing at a time. And pray tell, how would keeping the trees have significantly impacted employment in a building where ground has barely been broken and that won't be occupied for roughly two and a-half years from the time they were removed?
They were not big leaf maples (Acer macrophyllum), which are unsuitable as street trees due to their tendency to drop limbs, but rather American sweetgum (Luquidambar styraciflua).
”...the time when we see big trees again on this street is so far in the future that it's not worth considering.”
Charles, statements like this make your opinion not worth considering. Trees grow back. We obviously have to plan and build our city for the long term.
No one is obliged to speak to you or return calls Charles. I have noticed that many people have asked you questions via the slog that you have ignored.
And who will cry for the lone forest tree, reduced to fashionable desk and matching credenza, where the amoral and frequently overpaid minions of our digital overlords make zeros and ones dance to their greedy tune? No one. That's who.
Um, RELOCATED the bus stop???
No.
That WAS my stop.
There is no replacement.
Now I go to the next stop, about 3 blocks further.
And WTF about the entire sidewalk closure on University???
What do I have to look forward to in 3 or 4 years for dealing with this shit??
The INVASION OF THE TECH ZOMBIES!!
yay, all fucking couple thousand of them. fuck.

@7: really? did you see the shoring plan? were you privy to the design review or permit comments? you seem to know.
