The first gun Sean Nelson ever fired, a 1911 model Ruger.
That right there is the first gun Sean Nelson ever fired, a 1911 model Ruger.

"One of the best, if not THE best written piece I've ever seen you put out" is how Stranger reader Alden Nagel describes this essay in which a liberal snowflake gets to know gun culture from the inside. Granted, Alden is 19 years old. But still! He's not wrong. And he says he's been reading The Stranger for years.

Here's his letter:

Hello,

My name is Alden, and I've been reading The Stranger since I was 15 (I'm 19 now), and I've cherished it as my favorite newspaper, and my favorite news outlet in general. I've read hundreds, if not thousands of articles and pieces you've put out, but Sean Nelson's recent piece "I Had Never Touched A Gun Before The Las Vegas Massacre. Then I Bought One" was one of the best, if not THE best written piece I've ever seen you put out. From his amazingly smooth and candid writing style, to how poignant and strong-willed the ideas felt, I just love it so much. Not to sound dramatic, but in my book it's up there with The New Yorker's John Hershey's infamously great 1946 essay "Hiroshima," in terms of just how fucking good it is, and how much I liked it.

Keep up the good work. This is why I love The Stranger, and make sure to read the whole thing when the newest issue comes out. The world needs more super high quality alternative publications like The Stranger.

Love,

Alden Nagel

Thanks, Alden!
