"Transit hater, Donald Trump and Jenny Durkan supporter, and anti-tax troll Tim Eyman..."

There, fixed that for you.

@2: chicken and egg.

there is not enough money because we have a regressive tax system, dependent on the economic whims of consumers. in fort vancouver, you just cross the bridge into OR to avoid contributing to your state's coffers. the political entities you disparage cannot cripple their budgets in anticipation of a future income tax. they're not the US congress.

so, what if it happened SIMULTANEOUSLY?
6
Washington only has a regressive tax structure if you:
1) Completely ignore how those tax revenues are spent and,
2) Assume that the rich and poor are equally price-responsive to tax increases.

@2 idiot.

Where's the initiative to fix your state tax system and IMPOSE an income tax? Remember the last time you all had an initiative to make your tax code less regressive YOU VOTED IT DOWN because you said it wasn't drafted inclusively enough. Fauxgressive d-bags.

Anyway, don't just bitch about Tim and gather on the Seattle town hall steps for more regressive taxes. Get off your asses and fix your stupid state.

The native Washingtonians have it pounded into their brains from an early age that an income tax is bad, and that they need to continue to subsidize the wealthy. (I blame the Asarco Smelter, or women who spent the long winter nights drinking while pregnant). Tim knows that, and that is why this one will probably pass in a landslide AND be held up by the courts.

Get ready for an State income tax. That would be a 9.6% sales tax on top of say an income tax between 3% and 13% (based in the national average - California being 13.9%) which would put combined tax rate at ~14% on top of the federal withholding. All so liberals can bitch about the homeless and blame The President, complain about violent crime and blame The President, “Reel” about traffic and blame The President, and “process” the identity issue du jour, while blaming The President. Sounds like a lot of fun as liberal cannibalism takes root and implodes while the working class get a clue and leaves the state.

If enough people feel really annoyed with the way Tim Eyman's political activities (i.e. ambitions) may seem to toy with the future of our region, are there any legal ways to fight back against Eyman? Not simply directly at his recent income tax ban activity, but the way Eyman does his political business in general, to make it harder (or more expensive) for him to maintain his weird initiative campaigns year after year?
14
kinda almost wonder if he's considered this might be a case of be careful what you wish for.
If he does get this on the ballot and he loses, it's Katy bar the door.
Dems in general have been reluctant to come out and support an income tax because it's been considered to be a third rail.
Break that taboo and get the public to seriously consider it and it could morph like gay marriage from absurd to inevitable in no time flat.

@11 Washington is 13th nationally in millionaires per capita and Oregon is 30th, you uneducated dipshit. Median income is 5% higher. Your state government is broke cause it sucks.

@12 By all means, lower your sales tax with the same initiative. Nothing but your selfishness is stopping you from finding a solution to the moral violence you're inflicting on the poor people your economy depends on. You literally had a chance to just that last year, and an unholy alliance of racism and pressed-liberal-snowflake-fuckery screwed the pooch (and all of your working families).
16
@14 Except people actually marched and fought to win same sex marriage. Where the fuck if you fight?
17
Still waiting for The Stranger to apologize for fawning over Tim Eyman repeatedly, trying to help him kill light rail, and helping make him what he is today...
18
@7- I'll buy your argument about roads when drivers actually pay enough tax on fuel to pay for them. We subsidize the crap out of cars now.
19
The legislature can easily stop these initiatives by prohibiting initiatives that affect the revenues of the state of Washington. Many states already have such laws in place. I mean, they could stop this. Also, pleases remind people that it was Gary Locke, not Tim Eyman, who is responsible for our current situation. Every single Eyman initiative has been found to be unconstitutional or illegal in some way. Locke was a Republican who ran as a Democrat.
20
Go Tim!

@7: the US congress just removed taxes first, didn't they?

Please wait...
