Ugh. Hope dogs pee on them.

I've seen those robots being demonstrated and they're about as intimidating as Roomba with a Casio keyboard strapped to it. Most likely the camp was swept and set up in another part of the neighborhood.
4
Instead of Robocop, most likely, this bot took photos and video of all the illegal activities and freaked the paranoid drug addled folks out, and moved them on....bring 'em on!

People have been putting cameras in parking lots for years, I wish I could get one of these robots to go up and down Brady St all fucking day.

It's always so refreshing, especially at this time of year, when good, Christian folk look for opportunities to alleviate the pain and suffering of the destitute, forlorn, and downtrodden. Jesus would be so proud of them. May The Lord bless and keep you for upholding the spirit of true Christian charity and forgiveness, and showing such abounding mercy and compassion towards these lowly sinners, who are of course all children of the same benevolent Father.

Or you know, just go fuck off, and pray you never find yourselves in similar circumstances to these unfortunate wretches, whichever...

@9:

But, IIRC it was Jesus himself who said, "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven." Sounds exactly like an admonition to go to the bottom of the till.

@9:
The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath: it is twice blest;
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown;
His sceptre shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty,
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;
But mercy is above this sceptred sway;
It is enthroned in the hearts of kings,
It is an attribute to God Himself;
And earthly power doth then show likest God's
When mercy seasons justice.

I work near that location. It's frequently unwalkable. There aren't many stores or homes in that area, so it's dark and empty. I'm a 200 pound black male and I avoid that area. You can't think Street Harassment is an important ongoing issue and simultaneously not think that on-street homeless encampments are nbd (well, you can, but that's two sides of the same coin)

@8, @10

Last time I checked, a rather substantial percentage of the organizations offering food, shelter, and services to the homeless were explicitly Christian, funded largely by donations from individuals motivated by their religious beliefs.

Did those organizations all decide to go do something else recently? Did the donations just abruptly dry up for some reason?

I'm not familiar with this animal shelter, but a lot of them have basic veterinary facilities attached, meaning that they have medications on hand. Moderately desperate addicts have been known to sneak/break in to steal animal painkillers.

@8
That is an excellent point.
One might surmise that San Francisco (and Seattle) suffer from a scarcity of true xtians.

@9 - Mother Teresa?
--
Interesting that robots controlling "undesireables" in the street is coming via an animal shelter, and not, say, the police, or a bank, or a Maserati dealership or something like that.

@17 - Your extreme indignation to abject desperation has been noted. Thank you.
