Ads on billboards arenā€™t for people living under those billboards, either.
2
A few years back, there was an ad campaign on Metro buses for a car dealership that was along the lines of "buy a car from us, and you won't have to ride one of these!" Pretty sad that Metro had to prostrate themselves like that for a few extra dollars.
3
And then those pesky ads on NASCAR vehicles...
4
And what about those trucks that are literally rolling, two-sided billboards?

Why do buses have to have advertising on them anyway? They are a municipal resource. Public resources shouldn't be used as mobile, private ad-space, imho.

Also also, since we're talking about mobile ads: All of you that wear big ol' logos on the front-center of your t-shirts... are you being paid for that ad-space?
Because I sure would want to be. Gig economy, yo.

Bus riders have been known to drive their cars to Pioneer Square when they are buying a painting from a Pioneer Square gallery.

@4: Public resources take public dollars to maintain. But given budget shortfalls, don't you think the city should use the private sector to help fund the very pubic resources you hold so dear?
8
@7: Raindrop, you proofread your posts better than most around here, but I suggest you take another look at your last one.
9
@8: heh.

or you could get on this bus and be downtown in 15 minutes and not have to worry about finding parking or paying for it.

You forgot about the part where you arrive stinking of piss, shaken from the crazy person vomiting and acting belligerent up and down the aisles.
11
@8: A classic! Love it when that happens. Thanks.

@7 - I hold my pubic resources very dear indeed.

A better question is: Why are there "budget shortfalls" in the first place? The argument for austerity has been bankrupted (pun intended).

I do realize that money makes the world go 'round, etc.etc., but in an ideal world there oughtn't be ads on public stuff. Really nice graffiti perhaps, I'd be down with. (Like seriously artistic shit, not tags. ahem.)

"or you could get on this bus and be downtown in 15 minutes and not have to worry about finding parking or paying for it."

I live two miles from downtown Seattle, and cannot remember the last time I spent only 15 minutes on the bus - after standing around having to worry about whether or not my bus was going to show up on time.

Metro's great if you have time to kill. And if I have time to kill, I walk.
14
Sweet Jesus! If I lived in a place the size of Seattle and I could still get downtown parking for only $3 an hour it would seriously undermine my commitment to public transit.
15
Uh where I live $3 is what you pay for the bus.

Please wait...
