A lot of the media reporting this adopts Greitens's description of this as an extramarital affair, but isn't this more accurately sexual assault (allegedly)?

Not that he would be easily prosecuted. . . .
2
Greitens, I have been reading, is very close to Mike Pence.

Remember: to the Rightwing nuts things like morals, ethics, and decency are for other people and generally for marketing and in practice are just weaknesses.

No one told dan the old, “It’s a double standard!”, is kind of a double standard now.
6
I'd still grudge fuck the asshole.

Wiki says this: A Democrat until 2015, he switched to the Republican Party.

Looks like we Dems dodged a bullet.
8
Whoops.
Looks like Eric was a Democrat when the affair took place.
9
@8: But he'll be a Republican when he's impeached.

Now hold on a minute here.

Come in Dan, this whole thing is based on a recording made by the ex husband.

It is quite possible that the governor and his wife are kinky, and that they had an open relationship, and that the 3rd's husband is just a fuckwad and the governor did nothing wrong and a fully consensual kink scene became "oh no of course I didn't want a kink scene when I went over there" when the 3rd was confronted by her now ex husband and told him what he wanted to hear.

And near as I can tell, the governor campaigned on being a family man. There is no hypocrisy or conflict between having a strong, loving family and being open or kinky.

The only thing we know for sure here is that it's apparently politically better to be an adulterer than in an open relationship. "I messed up that one time" plays a lot better in a red state than "My wife and I like to tie up other women."

Until the woman involved wants to say something, what this really is is an abusive ex husband continuing the abuse by outing his wife against her will, and I'm disappointed Dan is helping out to score political points.

Sure, this guy's a reprehensible and repugnant piece of shit... But I mean, did you all not see him shoot that thing that exploded? Those things don't just explode on their own, ya know!?!

@10 - The woman he was having an affair with has said that the bondage was consensual but the photograph (and subsequent blackmail threats) were not.
13
@3 - It's amazing to me that the so-called "Strict Father" worldview's ethics can effectively let a man off a whole lot of hooks, and really big ones too.

It appears to work like this: Since Daddy the source of morality for his family (with Mrs. Eric Greitens his sweet subservient wife (and really, any woman) readily following all his rules.. [[which is why he can simply ignore bondage negotiations & do what he likes]]), there is a bit of a serious crisis when Daddy fucks up. If he betrays, he's not a good Daddy anymore.

But apparently it's easy to just go to the Bigger Daddy in the Sky to get absolution, and reassert the moral order... and not go, you know, to the people you actually hurt. Because, well, they are further down the hierarchy than you are, and they are out of line if they aren't following the (Daddy's) rules. Because Daddy chatted with Bigger Daddy and it's cool now.

It's not an ethics I advocate, but apparently it's what we're up against.

@14 I doubt this gun toting pol was ever anything but a DINO. Everything else you said: sad but so true!

I think the important point is not which political party he's affiliated with, but his religion, and how he uses Christianity to support and further his career as a complete asshole.

Please wait...
