Jim Acosta: POTUS "Harbors Racist Feelings" About People of Color

Remember when journalists were supposed to inform the public instead of covering up the President's character flaws like some kind of fascist propaganda ministry?
2
@1: not really.

there's always been the "respect the office" component to MSM reporting. they are terrified of calling a lie a lie and appearing subjective/editorial - a flaw that RW media exploits and that trump flew his campaign jet through.

Watch how the Dutch press doesnt shy away from challenging the US AmbASSador to their country about his lies. I loved how they didnt let him dodge the issue. Our press should ask this question until they (SanderHuckabee, Kelly, Munchin, etc)....'Please list the countries that Trump has listed as shitholes?' or please define what is a shithole etc etc. They should not give them a pass.

My hope would be that CNN stands behind him on this.

My fear would be a retraction, an apology, and a resignation/sacking after advertisers threaten to withdraw advertising from CNN.

It's sort of endearing how Acosta clearly feels awful about having to report this. Maybe it refers back to what @2 said, the "respect the office" thing/ afraid of calling a lie what it is; but it sort of looks to me like he believed in all that and is now seeing it fall apart for the first time.

Maybe he was one of those reporters who thought that the office tended to ennoble the person holding it --- that no matter what kind of scoundrel won the election, once he was installed he would try to live up to the ideals of the office --- and now he's seeing someone who doesn't even pretend to give a runny shit about any of that. It's kind of sweet and sad at the same time: like "aw, you really did believe in Santa Claus, didn't you? I'm so sorry" --- but at the same time you wonder how anyone could reach the age of 10 without figuring it out.

Does he have authority to just revoke all access and credentials from any outlets he disagrees with? I'd not be surprised if in a year or two the only sources with WH access are fox, breitbart and infowars. And even fox could conceivably land on shaky ground.

This. This is a great fucking post.

@6: “Does he have authority to just revoke all access and credentials from any outlets he disagrees with?”

I’m pretty sure. They don’t care about optics.

“I'd not be surprised if in a year or two the only sources with WH access are fox, breitbart and infowars.”

Nah, there are plenty remaining willing to entertain and coddle the little dictator. They’ve been mostly doing a good job so far.
