Cry me a river. Being a high profile activist might not be the best idea if you are in the country illegally.

To anyone who says "cry me a river", it needs to be pointed out that, truly, you are blinded by your wealth and privilege - the sheer, extraordinary luck of having been born, by chance, in a rich, successful western country. Most of the world didn't win that lottery, do you understand? Why do you think so many nearly kill themselves - some actually do die on the way - to come here? Because the countries they are fleeing are rife with grinding poverty, war, and widespread drug cartel gang violence. This woman has been here 25 years, with no apparent criminal record, and may be deported to Mexico - a place overrun with kidnappings, extortion, and tortured bodies turning up with signs left on the corpse to serve as a warning. You, me, anyone would try to escape this shit, even if it meant working some menial job at less than minimum wage ... because, as human beings, WE ALL NEED TO EAT. To scoff sarcastically as you have here over someone's fate like they don't literally matter ... like they are an ant to be stepped on ... I have to ask, do you treat the people in your life this poorly, or only those who are desperate and vulnerable?

@3. Just the people who come here illegally, work under a fake SS number, drive on our roads without a license or insurance, and who wouldnt call for help or testify if witness to a crime.

This lady is extra special though. On top of breaking a ton of our laws, she has the audacity to demand that we change one of the laws she is currently breaking...to benefit her...and now she’s crying about being singled out. Talk about delusional.

As for the privilege of being born here, I do my best to earn it every day. Sure I won the lotto, you did too. There’s 7 billion people in the planet though. And quite a few of them would like to come here. So seeing as how we have a limited amount of space and resources and there are immigration laws and quotas (one mil a year, legally)in place to protect our sovereignty, why don’t you just stfu about your pathetic, white guilt, open borders idea, Betty.

Your lovely, greedy, corporate war mongering politicians and corporations created the murderous mess in many of these third world countries. Oil at any cost and takeovers of the land. The U.S. is becoming more like a third world country everyday thanks to the super rich,
who make the planet more unlivable each day.

The destruction of Iraq, Haiti, Libya etc. are examples. Not to mention the destruction of the CD in Seattle by Paul Allen which has forced out many of my neighbors to outlying areas.

Time to stop the right wing bullshit.

If ICE wants to play these games then they should know that some of us from immigrant families have a special set of skills. We can write letters to the editor and influential communities, author checks, propose legislation, maybe even join a tech giant or two and move into management.

As #1 said, cry me a river. Who broke the law? She did. If it is so much worse in her own country, perhaps she should be focusing her efforts there, instead of helping other people break the law here.

Wow. Just wow. Is this The Stranger, or Breitbart? If this is what passes for "liberal", there is seriously little wonder Donald Trump won. The U.S. was built by what were then the very equivalent of "impoverished third worlders". Unless you are the descendent of Native Americans, we all are here because our usually flat broke and desperate ancestors somehow survived the coffin ships, or whatever method that brought them here. They didn't speak English, were considered filthy, disease ridden scum, were openly and legally discriminated against, and at best scraped by for menial wages in order to survive the even more desperate circumstances they fled.

You and I won the fucking lottery by accident of being born more recently than our great grandmothers. This isn't "white guilt" - thanks for the Rush Limbaugh/Tomi Lahren buzz phrase! - this is being human and having a soul and a conscience. This is giving a shit that the people next door to us who have been here for decades and are guilty of nothing more than the need to eat and survive are being rounded up, psychologically terrorized, and deported to gang ridden, hopeless, dangerous countries ... and for what purpose? Oh, in order to "make a point" and 'set an example". This is giving a shit that families are being forcibly split apart - parents shipped back to fucking Honduras and El Salvador while their kids remain here. But the human cost doesn't apparently matter. You're comfortable having won that lottery and aping Breitbart, and don't frankly give a shit.

Being here 25 years and didn’t make an effort to become a citizen? I have to wonder -why? Let’s ask fellow liberal state, California.

Like most of the rest who go "Public". They will get picked up at some point, ICE is like that. Then they cry Foul for being picked up. Stay quiet and live your life. Or, speak out and be sent back where you came from. The choice is kinda obvious because the Trump Admin doesn't care.

Please wait...
