Sorry, I know it sucks for you, and my business will get less traffic from facebook also...but I think it WILL make facebook a better experience.
2
Katie, FUCK YOU!!!

And given the quality of The Stranger losing you guys off my Facebook feed is perfectly fine.
3
Facebook is under no obligation to carry water for you. If you need Facebook's help to get readers, the problem is with you.

Also, they are trying to prune back heavily biased news from questionable sources. That's The Stranger.

You guys wear your bias on your sleeves, and often minimize details or flat out lie/get them wrong in an effort to influence opinion. At least two of your bloggers are on record stating that facts and truth are way less important than influencing opinion, and they will ignore the former for the latter.

Not everyone is required to find that a noble enterprise, or think such an outlet is worthwhile as a news source.
3
Yeah, PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE GETTING THEIR NEWS FROM FACEBOOK. PERIOD. If people cannot be bothered to seek out sources of REAL NEWS, FROM ACTUAL NEWS SITES because it doesn't show up in front of their face on Facebook, too fucking bad. Social media being a source of "news" is why we are in this current shit show. Can we all agree to that? FFS!!!

@3, that was the entire strategy of The Stranger after Bush was reelected in 2004. Dan Savage said that pushing a narrative was more important than being honest about what the facts show.

It didn't happen over night but over time The Stranger did become as fake of news as Fox News, The Young Turks or Brietbart

Theodore @3:

At least two of your bloggers are on record stating that facts and truth are way less important than influencing opinion, and they will ignore the former for the latter.

This wouldn't surprise me, but do you have a link to share?
7
And the only reason I come on here is to lament the loss of the old time bloggers like The Original Monique, Mr. Poe and others.

And to just read the boneheaded SJW bullshit that's spewed on a hour by hour basis. It's watching the left become as fucking insane as the right happen in real time.
8
Fuck "meaningful interactions." I surf the web solo for "relevant content." OTOH, is it really so hard to go directly to The Stranger's website, or use another news aggregation tool/feed?
9
We do need to support quality journalists and quality writers! That's why I'm donating to the South Seattle Emerald, Heidi Groover, Sydney Brownstone, Paul Constant, Goldy, Jen Graves...
10
@6: What is it about the SHIFT key that annoys you?
11
FB and Amazon suck. If you patronize either one you're part of The Problem, a gullible schmuck and you deserve whatever Dystopian fate awaits you. That is all.

The Stranger now knows what it feels like to be blocked from exercising free speech. Kind of like when it blocks or restricts people from making comments on their Facebook page - beyond the echo chamber-that is. The adage is true that payback it a vengeful bitch but let’s face it - The Stranger and other liberal outlets set the standards and now get to live up to them. Of course this was bound to happen with all the “political ad data” liberals where trying to publicly embarrass Facebook and others into surrendering. Seems to me, in the big scheme - this is a “rolled up newspaper on the nose” and FB could make life a lot worse if it really want to push the envelope.

It hilarious that the same tired rightwing trolls and sock puppets that post to slog obsessively thirty times every day are all “fuck you, Stranger! Social media don’t owe you noth’n!”

Christ. You shut-in losers wouldn’t have anything to do at all if you couldn’t agitate your mastibitory hate on Slog.
15
It sucks that a lot of media organizations heavily pivoted to rely on them for traffic, but this change has already made the Facebook newsfeed incredibly more pleasant.

I'm still seeing occasional articles, but not at the expense of everything else, and typically only when someone I know is sharing them.
16
If it were up to me this entire fucking blog and the "online presence" of the Stranger and every other god damn rag would disappear tomorrow. Get back to your roots and serve the people of Seattle by putting out a weekly fucking free paper I can pick up and read while drinking a coffee and taking a shit that tells me the hottest new place to drink coffee and take shits. If you have to depend on Mark Fuckerberg and his TheBookFace for revenue you've grown too big for your shit stained britches. Fuck!
17
Man, all that bitching about Facebook only to come crawling back. It's almost like y'all ain't even pretending to think beyond the moment.
18
FB is not a free service.

It's a glittering blackhole of data mining wherein you entitle FB to all of your online behavior data while interacting with their site, its ability to recognize you using software the mines your pictures, and also your friends, relatives, and your five year old kid. They let you complain about your life, Liberals, Trump, HRC, the anything else that you don't like, and scold random people you would otherwise never meet in exchange for selling all your marketing data for cash monies. Everything they do- whether inspired by tonedeafness about their participation in election manipulation or cowed by the public's response to that - will always be about making money and nothing they do for you is ever actually free. Feel good or bad about what they're doing at this moment but they're never going to take their off the real ball - making money on your behaviors.

@5: The one I can easily recall is from when Mudede "debated" Cliff Mass:

https://www.thestranger.com/features/201…

The other I can not recall, but it was a later article agreeing with Mudede's position on the matter. Since I can not recall or find the right search terms to get the article, I will amend that statement to one blogger, rather than two.
20
@14, Damn you ARE classy, aren't you? That GED is really paying off!
21
@12. Never mind, e e
22
It is not that hard to type slog into a browser bar and click on the stranger url. I do it a couple of times a week.

Quit whining. Fb and twitter need to go away or at least be radically reformed.
23
I think anyone whose primary source of news is a social media "feed" is probably defective to start with.
24
Christ almighty, the sense of entitlement...

I'm sorry, The Stranger, but nobody owes you a single click's worth of internet-traffic.

If you had a windfall for a while, that's great, but you never paid a dime for it and you're looking awfully spoiled when you throw a tantrum about having it taken away.

Oh, and here's a thought: maybe people will keep reading news even if Facebook isn't shoveling it into their faces anymore?
25
Publish real news stories and aim to show up in real news aggregators? You do show up on Google News, don't know how much traffic it drives. Hey, if Dan's trolling Jill Stein voters interferes with your ranking there maybe you would cut that shit out.
26
News sources that survive the coming feedpocalypse will be better off for it having happened — as will news consumers.
27
Fuck YOU, Brendan Zuckerman! Your cybergreed has been the ultimate reason for me to cancel out of Yahoo and Facebook altogether.
@14 Dr.Zaius: I think I love you.
28
@27 Oh shit. Is it Mark Zuckerman? It doesn't matter. FUCK YOU, ZUCKERMAN!
Yahoo SUCKS and it's your fault!
29
Stop using Facebook as a news source. It's not what it's for, and it's bad at it. Facebook is for keeping up with your friends and sharing pictures of cats. Be very aggressive with Facebook's "Hide all from ..." feature, and use FBPurity and ad blockers with impunity. Really, you need to detoxify your Facebook feed if you're going to use it.

RSS/Atom is a much, much better way of getting your news. Set up your trusted sources in a some kind of RSS feed, and if you're really crazy, set that to your home page. I use ighome.com, and it allows me to have much greater, broader view over the news then what gets filtered through Facebook and Twitter.

IMHO.

Alarmed with the reports given us by Roger McNamee and others about FB and other social media outlets creating addictive behaviors in order to keep eyes on the screen so that more ads could be sold, I took my business page off of Facebook voluntarily (gasp). Have not noticed any drop in business. None. Zero. My thinking is, if your business model relies on social media to literally keep the lights on, as you say, you do not have a sustainable business model. I suggest you reimagine just how you do business without social media being so necessary and move forward. You do want control of your future, don’t you? Sorry but it just sounds like you are whining...Zuckerberg is twisting in the wind right now, he will do anything to keep FB from being regulated. Either way, whatever he does or whatever the regulators do in the future if and when regulation is forced, you guys will have to change your business model towards not relying on social media. Maybe it’s not such a bad thing to realize this now and put together an effective strategy for the future.

Please wait...
