White Center is not 15 miles outside of Seattle city limits, it borders city limits and that Bartells is literally right across the street from the city limits. The linked Seattle Times 'thought' piece says '15 feet' not 15 miles.

Members of Congressional Black Caucus don't stand as Pres. Trump touts low African-American unemployment rate, because a low African-American unemployment rate is not the agenda of the Congressional Black Caucus.
The Congressional Black Caucus is not interested in African-Americans getting jobs.
The Congressional Black Caucus is not interested in African-Americans pursuing happiness and making the American Dream their dream.
The Congressional Black Caucus is only interested in flaming racial hostility and keeping African Americans feeling victimized and helpless and dependent.
The Congressional Black Caucus is the enemy of African Americans who seek to achieve their American Dream.

@1 Thanks for the catch. Humans at work.

A 50% increase is Murders in one year is a symptom of a pussy-whipped police force.

Take a look into the crystal ball (ie, Baltimore since the malicious prosecution of police officers in the Freddy Gray incident) to see Seattle's future;
Baltimore's murder rate has soared since Freddy Gray, and is now TEN times the national rate.

Perhaps if Baltimore paid to Lawyer-Up the families of the thugs it's police shoot the murder rate would drop.

It baffles me that big photos of your breakfasts and commentary about it would be worthy of anyone's interest. I would hazard a guess that a lot of us find it repulsive.

I can't decide if the funniest part of the State of the Union was watching Schumer and Pelosi shushing other democrats when they applauded things they weren't allowed to, or when it was time for the rebuttal so they sent out a ginger from one of the most privileged families in America who was literally drooling on himself.

For added hilarity, they had him do the speech in front of a partially dismantled car, as if they wanted to remind everyone of Chappaquiddick.

From that Seattle Times article on the Soda tax: "But some of the anecdotes out of White Center ... "

Anecdotally, I don't drink soda. My friend doesn't drink soda either. So I guess that means soda consumption is now zero across the city. Cool.

50% more lazy and incompetent in one year?
12
@2: They didn't stand because Trump is a fucking racist.
14
Nobody gives a shit what you had for breakfast, and nobody gives a shit what's in the alley behind where you live. Stop this juvenile self-absorbed crap.

"If youā€™re one of the 12,000 kids that takes the bus to a Seattle Public School, Iā€™m proud of you for reading the news"

So we *can* confirm that the Stranger's target audience is teenagers. No wonder it is so painful for the adults here.

@14,

Granted, I'm super tech savvy and good at navigating online systems, though I bet if you inquired at your local library you could enroll in some classes and learn how to scroll past content you were uninterested in. And FYI, I actually do rather enjoy her back alley related musings.
17
@#15: And yet here you are.

Treytor Gowdy (R-Infowars) just announced his ā€œretirementā€ from the Ku Klux Kongress to spend more time with his melted, microwaved face.

Who will take up the Sisyphean effort to bring justice to the House permanent committee for Benghazi show trials?

I do find the pictured food to rather scrumptious and yes it does made my stomach growl a bit. Unfortunately just about everything ever shown has been extremely high in carbo content which for me is forbidden food. Since, as mentioned in this slog, the target audience is teenagers and young adults you might try mentioning the dangers of eating too many carbohydrates.

If the soda tax fails (along the lines of projected revenue) it'll be because it was simply too high. It's a tricky business setting a tax balancing imagined benefits against consumer psychology; and this time it's fairly clear that they overshot on the "Oh, lets also add in some money to go to ". Had the sticker shock been somewhat less most folks probably wouldn't bother making the long and sticky journey outside the city, (to that Bartell's down the road a bit)

Train carrying GOP lawmakers stopped after crashing into ā€˜some kind of dump truckā€™

Also, there was some sort of traffic accident today.

The problem with aggregation is that you run the risk of distributing somebody else's errors (which is why we do very litle of it). The source story for the soda-tax blurb makes the mistake that the Big Newspaper In Town frequently makes - suggesting a large chunk of south West Seattle is in White Center, which it is not. and also erroneously suggests the city-county line is "25 feet away" from the pizza shop that hosted an anti-soda-tax media event Friday, which it is not ... the pizza shop is at 35th/Roxbury and the city-county line doesn't start going down Roxbury until 30th, five blocks east. I'm confused by the sudden appearance of breakfast photos. Was this something the readership was clamoring for? What is behind millennials' insistence on forcing photos of their food on other people?
24
Besides the CDC Director walking the plank, Trump has also pulled the plug on his nominee for Ambassador to South Korea. It seems the man expressed some unease with the WH talk about giving North Korea a "bloody nose" (i.e., an airstrike). What kind of attitude is that for a diplomat?
25
I don't understand why UW is bothering to do a study on the tax? If the UW findings go against what the city council has been preaching then they will belittle the study and UW and higher Berkeley to do a "study" with the guidlines of what the outcome will be, just like the $15 min wage study. Our city officials are allegedly data shopping for whatever fits their agenda

@23: I think it is the new form of conspicuous consumption.

Young people these days can't really afford new cars or $2,000 watches. They are likely renting so you can't brag about that having a nice home. Cell phones could work, but everyone has one, so it is kind of lame.

But what they can afford is expensive/exotic food, so you take a picture of that for status, since there is little else you have.

I don't think it explains this little project Slog seems to be doing, but that may be why the trend started.

Re: the hate crime in Auburn. Entry says he slept with a "white" woman. Based on the surname, I'm assuming the suspect, and his sister, are pacific Islander. Just an assumption though.
28
Those of you who are complaining about the editorial decision to lump breakfast photos with news items of great moment clearly don't understand narcissism. By the way, I'm pretty sure Kyra didn't poach that egg. It looks soft-boiled to me.
29
@28: Typically narcissists post things about themselves, not inanimate objects.
30
@26 Young people could afford new cars and $2,000 watches if they had the discipline, and willingness to sacrifice, and save up for it. I've met some great young people on different career paths with a good head on their shoulders who get the need to start saving early, no matter how much you make. I think they paid attention to the crisis of 2008. I've also met some young people who have no clue..... despite being led to water they just won't drink or rather, they opt out of the cheap water and go for the expensive kind.
31
I can't wait for the alley update tomorrow. Shame my breakfast pictures didn't make the cut. Maybe next week. I think @7 and @19 should join the fun and post their breakfasts next week. Why not? have some fun. Live a little. Post those protein shots! xo
32
The alley update would be better if there was more man on man anal action happening.
34
@2 Iā€™d recommend spending some time reading up about ā€œtrend linesā€ before you try debating about Trump & African-American unemployment rates. As is, you sound like a boob.
35
Not sure Iā€™m buying the crime stats where one-in-163 people has the probability of being a victim. Maybe thatā€™s why liberal protests are so large
