This stems from On the Media great multi-part series from 2016 on poverty in America called Busted. People can dive into the whole series here: https://www.wnyc.org/series/busted-ameri… Great and thoughtful reporting.

The first episode on how members of the media take and re-take poverty tours for their related stories (but avoid addressing the deep systemic, complex issues related to poverty) is a must-listen.

From a purely personal greed standpoint, even the dumbest conservative should be against cuts to Medicaid, especially if they are counting on an inheritance from an elderly relative. Nothing empties the estate quicker than any sort of nursing home care, and thousands of middle-class people end up relying on Medicaid to keep some wealth in the family.

We were lucky in that neither of my parents required nursing home care, but Papa Vel-DuRay went to a lot of pains to set up a trust if it was needed. Otherwise, Medicaid would take all the assets, including any real estate.

Without Medicaid, it’s shell out that money - which will probably cause financial hardships especially if the estate is drained, or bring Mom or Dad - with their 24 hour a day nursing needs - to live with you.

The amount of damage this administration* is doing is almost unbelievable. It will take two generations to repair just what's been done so far. Three more years is terrifying.
