What are they hiding?

Did Cary Moon launder drug money into the race to plant Salem witch trial adds featuring Jenny Durkanā€™s unphotoshopped chin?

Was Nikita Oliver a planted Russian blm troll?

Did whatā€™s his face consider streaming a live sex change ad so he could actually compete?

Did Jenny Durkan try to pay Facebook in chicken bones and hair for a voodoo discount on zuckā€™s lackluster love life?

What rock will the most boring, low stakes mayoral race in the PNW turn over next?

Honestly, this focus on Facebook's ad data doesn't seem to be justified. The huge take away form the Russian indictments is how little of what they actually did involved advertisements. The ads on Facebook are not the (most) pernicious part.

@1-@3: Consider elevating your commentary with less of a tabloid flavor for more thoughtful analysis and feedback.

You missed the most interesting tweet:
"We are also taking aggressive steps to prevent this sort of meddling in the future by requiring verification of political advertisers and by making all ads on the platform visible to anyone who cares to examine them." Which the NYTimes fact checks and says: "After initially dismissing concerns that it influenced the 2016 election, Facebook has announced a series of moves to prevent its future misuse. One of those steps includes verifying political advertisers through a system that combines automated and human fact checkers."

Just last week they were sending a lackey out to say that complying with Seattle and Washington law was too onerous. But here they are bragging about taking the exact steps needed to comply. Let's be clear, complying with the law was never actually going to be a problem. They just want to ignore the law and comply on their terms, I hope they are taught a lesson.

And to the Facebook apologists(employees), all the candidates and other media companies (such as the The Stranger) have shown they complied with their relevant disclosure laws. It is time for Google and Facebook to comply with theirs.

Oh my God, some people in Russia bought $100,000 worth of Facebook ads??? And the total spent on the 2016 presidential election was... $2.4 billion. Why exactly are people freaking out over this?

@9, Yeah, and less than half of those ads were seen before the election, and this was spread out over 2 years. http://money.cnn.com/2017/10/02/media/fa…

People on mainstream news outlets are comparing this to Pearl Harbor and 9/11. This is insane. By all means prosecute fraud and any other crimes that were committed. But let's keep our reactions proportionate to the scope of the influence these ads had.

@5. Iā€™m over the feedback here. Itā€™s like arguing with over emotional children. Just trying to have a little fun.

@12 - np - on second thought, I was being pretentious given that it's Slog.

Please wait...
