every one knows that threatening the life of the POTUS is over the line. it was a dumb move, particularly if the president is a vindictive narcissist.

much better to pray silently for his death, like Melania.

The timing of the pic was wrong. Dotard was fresh in office and enjoying the warm honeymoon glow that the press and pubic generally allow any new president, hence the backlash. Now that dotard's true colors are plain to see the reaction would not be nearly as harsh.
Staging a mock presidential beheading will get you on the secret service's radar and no-fly list no matter how much of joke-gag it is. That gave them the justification to make her life miserable - after all she technically threatened the PUSA. She wandered into it pretty carelessly herself.
Rather than apologize, she should double-down and start marketing trump-face suppositories, trump-face tampons, trump-face diapers.... It would be hilarious now to see the wingnuts try to gin up the same outrage machine now that dotard's criminal behaviors are quite apparent to all.

Jeez, it's almost as if everybody would like to silence offensive speech, if only they could agree on which speech was offensive.

@4 is correct. People think these trends are contained on the left or the right, not recognizing that most (white) elements of the country, on both edges of the political spectrum are headed down an authoritarian path.

W/R/T Griffin, I feel like you need to put her in the Rush Limbaugh/Bill O'Reilly etc boat: Freedom of Speech doesn't mean that people aren't allowed to dislike your speech or for you to lose professional standing over your speech. The investigation was obviously bad and stupid and everyone who called for it should be ashamed. But as someone who's been very concerned about the "no-platform" trend, just because the left has been moving anti-speech doesn't imply that the Right is any better, it's just that I lack standing to chastise conservatives - my peers are liberals and I worry that we're betraying the principles of progressive democracy as I understand them and undermining the entirety of liberal political movement. Clean your own house first type of thing.

Her show in Seattle is in JUNE (your link says July), and is almost sold out.

The college kids, and younger people in general, aren’t against free speech. They are against hate speech. And they are also deathly afraid to disagree with anyone unless they are in a nodding pack. Their cowardice gets mistaken for not having principles. They do, they just go to pieces when having to stand on their own.

And the Right doesn't own free speech. They are just using it to cover up advocating violence and intimidation. Why let them define the term? Like when Republicans told liberals that identification was the worst thing one could be, and the liberals let them. Right progressives?

A lot of people seem to have a lot of trouble distinguishing between social sanction and persecution by the state.

Ah yes, everyone was so concerned with poor Barron seeing a decapitated mannequin that slightly resembled his dad. Imagine how he's going to feel when Stormy publishes the pic of his dads weird shriveled orange dong. Kids going to be more fucked up than Cory Feldman when he grows up.

@9:

Given his father's decidedly skeevy adoration of his female offspring, who's to say poor Barron hasn't already been subjugated to multiple exposures to the patris tui mentula?

@8, I suppose you missed the part of the article where Ms. Griffin is on the no-fly list.

And every article about her needs to include a mention of Ted Nugent, who also "joked" about killing the president, and got invited to the WH for it.

Never quite got the outrage. My first thought was, my what a witty homage to Klimt.
The whole Judith/Holofernes visual motif has this long, storied pedigree in Western Art. I assumed all educated people were familiar with it.
Wrong again.

I had the misfortune of seeing Kathy live in Boston a few years back. My companion had obtained tickets for cheap and we went out of curiosity, really knowing very little about her other than she was supposedly a comic of some sorts. I think we lasted 20 or 30 minutes. 100% of her "show" was gossip and trash mongering. From the first "joke" onward, she simply "dished" on her perception of what passes for "celebrity", pandering to her audience of people who apparently knew all of the characters of every "reality" show in existence, Housewives shows, The Bachelor, etc. LIke any high schooler. She's a grown, I would have thought, not stupid woman. I was embarrassed for her.

The picture was as brainless as her show. Why she participated - she lays the blame with the photographer and accepts none of the blame herself - is just odd. I don't think she should be hassled at airports or otherwise, nor lose her career over something so stupid, and I'm sure she will bounce back fully. What is baffling to me is that she has a career at all.

Well, there's your problem right there - thinking this place had a surfeit of intellectuals.

Frankly, I viewed the image as more evocative of Perseus with the head of Medusa, but a Judith/Holofernes (Gentileschi's version graces my wife's desktop) comparison does also seem apt.

lol @ anyone that gave a shit about this in the first place. It was deliciously awful to watch liberals abandoning her to preserve the facade of respect of some absurd office that has been occupied by a straight up progression of low life scoundrels in our modern times.

Actually KG is as disingenous and self serving as Trump.

She has made a career out bullying, making fun of, and outing people(like John Travolta on Twitter).

She claims to be a "champion" of the LGBTQ community, but in fact mines them for her own personal profit. "Where are MY gays?" she cries at her shows, like they exist in her self absorbed world as an accessory, a handbag or a pair of shoes.

And now she cries "victim", just not buying it. She pulled the same stunt after her "Fashion Police" firing.

Trump and KG are both manipulative and narcissistic and will say or do anything to stay relevant.

Please wait...
