ben carson, rick perry, betsy devos. hell, donald trump.
you don't need to be particularly intelligent to be a cabinet secretary. bureaucracies coming off a competent 8-year run can pretty much run themselves.
I prefer her ignorance to scott pruitt or ryan zinke.
"You don't need to be particularly intelligent to be a cabinet secretary..."
Jesus. Christ. I guess not as long as people believe stupid shit like this, no, I guess we don't.
I mean, if you want an organism as complex as the worlds most powerful nation with a trillion moving parts, nuclear weapons, and sitting on the precipice of financial and environmental catastrophe to, you know, fucking burn down. Then... sure. Let's embrace the comforting mythology that all this shit just magically runs itself and heads in the right direction based on some delusional inertia.
Fuck... of COURSE we need smart people in these positions.
Am I the only one seeing this post full of black boxes instead of video links? On Chrome they're entirely black, on Edge (where I have no extensions) they're the lower half of the image, with black below them.
@3: they're actually demonstrating that I'm right - so far.
they're "running" these agencies, but as little more than figureheads. it would be nice if they were smart, but then they'd also be evil - like Pruitt and Zinke purging competent staff, ending good programs, leaving them a gutted shell.
as long as there aren't any Katrinas at HUD, Energy, or Education, we'll never suffer the consequences of so many Brownies doing a heckuva job.
@11 no. No they are not demonstrating you are right. Where the fuck have you been? Have you not been paying attention?
Dozens of sub cabinet level positions remain unfilled. Our state department is crippled with diplomatic posts unfilled. The day to day work of our agencies has ground pretty much to a halt. What has replaced the “work” has been the constant dumpster fire, leak suppression, infighting, and insane unworkable policy implementation resulting in law suits, confusion and grid lock.
Not to mention that smart cabinet heads would instantly recognize stupid shit like reviving the coal industry to be futile effort or revoking Net Neutrality to be an economy killer.
Come on. Of course you need smart people. But nobody smart wanted to work with Trump. He’s not even got C Squad junior varsity in there.
I'm afraid the good Doctor is right on this one Max. Smart people, (R or D), at least have some passion or vested interest in doing things correctly - apathetic figureheads tend to just let things slide into chaos and evil.
@6, Here's your fiddle, mr. nero. I'm sure other people will take care of that fire. You don't want to appear angry, now do you? It almost makes one want to clutch your pearls to think that people are passionate about the nation they live in. How droll.
@12: I've been right here, following this shitshow on a daily basis. I'm not high and I'm not Eric Hagerman. I'm fully aware who DeVos is.
I'm simply saying that it could be far worse, and we're lucky they are incompetent seat warmers as opposed to a malevolent go-getter. neglect is preferable to destruction.
I'd rather positions sat empty than be filled with Scott Pruitts. apparently, so would Democratic Senators.

@3 You seem very very angry on the Internet. I hope that helps you. And brings about the change you probably want.
Oh these Post N' Go staffers!
Haha. I expect my anger to bring about as much “change” as your passive aggressive concern trolling does you.

cross your fingers.
