Last week Gov. Jay Inslee appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher, along with Michael Avenatti (Stormy Daniels' lawyer), writers Alex Wagner and Frank Bruni, and Canadian self-help guru Jordan Peterson. The show was taped on 4/20, and during a post-show Q&A segment called "Overtime," noted stoner Bill Maher, naturally, asked Gov. Inslee about Washington's recreational weed market (which, lest you forget, was the first to open in the U.S.).

Inslee said: "We talked about Starbucks, we talked about our great voter rights bill, we talked about our efforts to beat climate change, but for you, Bill, I can honestly say we have the best weed in the United States of America."

Jay, clearly, has never met my friend Ha Ha Hazel, an Oregon grower whose weed will get you high just by looking at it. Regardless, Inslee's comments became perfect #content the following week for Washington and/or weed writers, including KUOW, the Seattle Times, KING 5, and conservative radio host Jason Rantz, who reached out to the Governor's office to find out if he was speaking from personal experience.

Sadly, the answer is no.

“The governor does not use cannabis," Tara Lee, deputy communications director, told the Jason Rantz Show. “As you saw on the show, and likely know, the governor is a big booster of all things Washington. He is proud of the state and all its products. He recognizes that legalization of marijuana in the state was done by the will of the voters in 2012, and so far it has been implemented in a safe and regulated way.”

Well, Jay, it'd be a lot cooler if you did.
