Bailey Stober, the former chair of the King County Democrats fresh off months defending himself against harassment allegations, confirms to the Seattle Times that he's now running for the state legislature.

In Times reporter Jim Brunner's words, Stober will bring "well-documented baggage" to the race. Yeah, you could say that. A former employee and several members of the party organization accused Stober of harassment, making inappropriate comments about women, and overspending party funds on travel and entertaining. An internal investigation and a separate investigation by the King County Assessor's office (Stober's day job) found he had called the former employee a "bitch." Stober also allegedly engaged in juvenile behavior like spraying the employee with silly string while she was driving and taking her phone while she was in the bathroom to post to her personal Facebook page, "I shit my pants."

After denying the allegations and refusing to permanently step down, Stober then faced an internal "trial," which found him guilty. He then resigned from his role. When the investigation at his day job made similar findings, but found he did not engage in that behavior at the assessor's office, Stober signed an agreement with the county to leave his job and receive a $37,700 severance. All of this has been covered for months in the Times, by independent journalist Erica C. Barnett, and here on Slog.

Stober intends to run for state representative in the 47th District as an "independent Democrat." The district covers part of Southeast King County including Kent and Auburn. Republican Mark Hargrove, who currently holds the seat, won his last election by 14 points.

Barnett reports today that you're not the only one thinking this sounds like an absolutely terrible idea. So are several people close to Stober.
