She could win.

2

Hahahaha!

3

Okay, Senator Cantwell.

Fuck her up.

4

Senator Cantwell has been very astute in her choice of challengers. :-)

5

Susan H is NOT a nice person. I have had the unfortunate experience of meeting her a few times and she is nasty. She'll fail miserably, of course. Seattle will be better without her in it.

6

@1: “She could win.”

Just as you “could” know what you’re talking about. Just like that.

7

@6: Yes. That's the way verbs work.

9

“I completely agree with Senator Murray's first election campaign, fresh faces, fresh ideas.”

Like, the fresh idea of not having a rapist represent Washington state in the senate.

“That wouldn't be problem, they told us, when they first ran.”

Patty Murray ran as a not-rapist. Maria Cantwell ran as not giving away our natural resources to Slate Gorton’s campaign contributors. Both ideas are still valid.

11

Has anybody told ‘ol Lazy Susan she can’t call in sick in the Senate whenever she wants to go canoeing?

13

Cantwell must be terrified.

14

@12 My librarian sister and teacher brother-in-law have a place on Whidbey Island. So what. My God you guys are desperate.

15

@14 - Your sister and in-law are also shielded from the riff-raff, but Pouty Patty has an "exclusive area" and is more protected. Bless her heart.

16

"In D.C. for too long" is an argument for replacing an old Democrat with a new Democrat. But to suggest we replace old Democrat Cantwell with new Republican Hutchison is absurd.

If people prefer Republicans, fine - argue for the republican. But whining about Patty Murray's house on Whidbey Island therefore Susan Hutchison for Cantwell's seat? Pull the other one.

17

"I don't believe in term limits. That is something for voters to decide, with the exception of the Presidency."

jackkay dear, we agree on something! Isn't that wonderful?

And Raindrop dear, I'm a little afraid that the the City Council has screwed the pooch sufficiently with this head tax thing that we may just have a Republican slip in somewhere as a "protest". The good thing is that the GOP runs the same old tired, odious people (Rossi, Hutchinson) over and over because that's what their sociopathic idiot base likes.

18

@9 Actually, Murray was running before Brock Adams blew up. She was not running as an anti-rape candidate when she entered the race.
Having seasoned legislators representing Washington State interests in office is a good thing; term limits are an idiotic idea meant to serve the wealthy since it makes it that much easier to purchase influence, using experienced lobbyists to manipulate inexperienced office aspirants.

19

So, Patty Murray is a successful capitalist! Awesome!

Isn’t that was you shit bags love?

20

I mean. Jesus. The first thing I did when I made a little real money was buy a place away from the sort of shit pile trolling riff raff that comment all day on slog. So. God for Murray!

21

See that?

That’s why your bullshit little 1% arguments have no friends.

22

My favorite Sue Hutch' story is from back in her late '80s newsreading days.

For some obscure/specific reason, there was a news segment being recorded in my high school in the middle of the day. Seeing a camera, light, and someone local-tv-glamorous in the hallway was sort of exciting. I recognized her face, but as I walked by I nudged my friend and asked "Hey, is that Jean Enersen?"

I heard a sharp scoff/exhale and when I glanced back her brief look of bitter disgust bore into me, so I scampered off to whatever class I had next.

Let's hope she carries that grace and courage to DC!

23

@22 - I love it. It's unlikely SH will do any campaigning in Seattle - she's already set her campaign tone as virulently anti-Seattle (surprise!), but if anyone happens to see her, calling her Jean Enerson is a no-brainer.

24

its up to the Republicans to run worthy candidates. I'm Right of center, no fan of Cantwell, BUT truly Hutchison is a nut! Sucks for us moderates.

26

Sargon dear, he is nice looking. But he's a Republican. You know he has some creepy fetish and cries after sex.

double_hopped, I've been saying that for years. I'm no fan of the GOP, but the complete and total craziness of the Republican Party is not good for anyone. The vacuum they create lleads to crazies like Sawant on the left.

27

As much as I think Hutchinson is a wingnut, she could be a serious challenger if people on the red side of things vote for her in strength and just a little of the votes on the blue side go her way.

28

@26: Cries after sex, like Rex on Desperate Housewives?
https://youtu.be/y5xItLCc-IA

29

I guess that means it’s time to get out there and get that homeless, drug and alcohol addicted vote. That should turn the tide of any election in Washington . You know - “vulnerable Democrats out of state”.

31

@16 While the idea of replacing an old, rich, and out of touch Establishment Democrat with a younger progressive who knows what it's like to worry about making the rent would be great, the Democratic Party will never allow it. The wishes of the donor class always outweigh the needs of the working class.

There is only one way to replace an incumbent DINO with the Party's backing. Hold your nose and do what it takes, and then start developing a progressive candidate to take on the Republican in 6 years. I can't vote for a nut-job like Hutchinsen, but I won't vote for Cantwell after all the times she has voted with the Republicans against us working stiffs.

32

Greenwood_Bob dear, in my ten plus years of commenting on Slog, that has to be the trolliest comment ever posted (and I remember such icons as Mr. Poe, Loveschild, Seattleblues and Lord Basil) Well done, sir!

33

My apologies, Greenwood_Bob. A careful re-reading on my part shows that you were NOT, as I first thought, advocating voting for Susan Hutchinson.

Mrs Vel-DuRay regrets the error.....

34

@33: But given his comment and others, it's seems apparent that Senator Maria Cantwell (D, WA) has been less than stellar and rather disappointing, even through the eyes of seasoned northwest Democrats.

35

Wait Whidbey Island is bad? What about Vashon? Is it bad to live on Vashon? I'd like to live on Vashon but don't want to be a bad person ...

36

Clearly the writer (Rich Smith) of this opinionated piece doesn't do much research on people before talking about them. Pretty sad and pathetic if you ask me. He claims that Joey Gibson is a "completely fucking insane person" that one should not count on. Mr. Smith obviously has never listened to Mr. Gibson speak nor has he heard the passion of Mr. Gibson when he speaks of defending everyone's rights and freedoms, including the First Amendment as well as the Second Amendment (which by the way guarantees all other rights). Mr. Gibson is strongly opposed to the smuggling of people and forced prostitution of these people, which include children. Mr. Gibson wants to protect these innocent children and women from this horrifying crime that's happening right under Seattle's noses. Mr. Gibson opposes these new higher property taxes that everyone's forced to pay. We want less government and maximum freedom. Mr. Gibson supports Term Limits. Cantwell does not. Mr. Gibson supports a fair tax plan. Cantwell does not. Cantwell wants our tax dollars to fund abortions. Mr. Gibson is opposed, as are many of us voters. Cantwell supports Big Pharma and the Opioid epidemic. Mr. Gibson is opposed. Mr. Gibson supports LEGAL Immigration. Cantwell supports ILLEGAL immigration (Federal crime). Mr. Gibson supports Voter ID Laws. Cantwell does not. Cantwell wants to impose an Energy Tax. Mr. Gibson is opposed.

Joey Gibson is clearly the better choice. If you have any questions or concerns about him, listen to him speak. Check out his website: GibsonForFreedom.com
He is actually a very intelligent, educated man who cares about his fellow American and their families. He cares about protecting our country, our people, and most importantly, OUR CHILDREN. Our children are getting killed by psychopaths. Our Govt protects the banks and our currency with guns, but only protects our children with signs?? We need to protect our children better than that. We need to allow teachers who are trained and licensed and who choose to do so, to carry concealed to protect our kids. Or we need to hire Veterans to work security at the schools to protect our kids. The school system is failing at protecting them. We need to vote in favor of Initiative 1621, expanding choice for school security.

Do what's right. Do what's smart. Protect your freedoms. Protect your children. Protect your families and your homes. Vote Gibson for Freedom. Vote Gibson for U.S. Senate. And Vote YES on Initiative 1621.

37

@35 dont you know? Unless you live in a pre-gentrified tiny house on cap hill you are a very very bad person

38

Given the extreme left wing overreach in Seattle we're probably going to see one Republican win statewide office. I'd rather lose Cantwell than give up the Govenor's mansion given a choice.

39

Hi Joey. Yes. We know. You’ve worked very hard. You’re a very good boy. Now run along.

40

this reboot stuff has gone too far

41

@36- With the exception of your ridiculous allegations that she somehow supports "the opioid epidemic," I could not have made the case for re-electing Cantwell better myself. You have neatly set out the litany of bad ideas that the Republicans are currently pushing on us and demonstrated why sending any more of them to the Senate will be a disaster. Thanks, and we're looking forward to seeing your equally intelligent defense of Popular Vote Loser Trump.

42

Go, Maria, GO!! Former TeeVee anchorbimbo Susan Hutchinson is just what rabid RepubliKKKans and their dupes want to open the flood gates of the Mein Trumpfy swamp.
@39 FDR: I can't argue your point. Sigh
