Teacher of the Year Removed from Texas Classroom for Showing Photograph of Her Wife

This is horrendous, but a week old. Read the NYT.

Although not illegal based on her sexual orientation, shouldn't it be against union rules to reprimand a teacher without cause? (although I shouldn't necessarily expect a teacher's union to be functional in Texas)

Any appeal to the federal level should be a slam dunk win ("should be", famous last words alert) under the same reasoning that gay marriage was legalized: Orientation aside, no action would have been taken had one of Bailey or Vazquez been male; which is how Justice Kennedy reasoned in his gay marriage decision: Is sex discrimination (already illegal), regardless of orientation.

Texas state law reads like it was written by Dr. Seuss after a datura binge.
